Fans of the fantasy side of Warhammer finally get a new game, along with a plethora of 40,000 announcements
Warhammer Skulls, the big yearly showcase for video games set in the Warhammer universe, just wrapped up its 10th edition, and there is a lot to keep fans excited in the months to come, no matter if you have a soft spot for genetically engineered soldiers in power armor or if skulking ratmen slithering in the shadows are more your thing.
Play as a Skaven assassin in Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Deathmaster
The show was headlined by two premieres, one being Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Deathmaster, a 2d action-platformer that will let players take control of a Skaven for the first time. Developed by Old Skull Games and published by Dotemu, Deathmaster is a story-driven, stealth-heavy adventure that will let players skulk around enemies as the deadly Vihneek, who will try to rise the ranks of clan Eshin.
The game is set in the Mortal Realms of the Age of Sigmar setting. It's great to see Warhammer's fantasy side getting some love, finally, but the grim future of the 40,000 setting is still dominant, with plenty more announcements.
Warhammer 40,000 turn-based RPG gets a sequel
The other premiere was Warhammer 40,000: Chaos Gate - Deathwatch, the sequel to 2022’s Warhammer 40,000: Chaos Gate - Daemonhunters. The game will let players take command of an elite Deathwatch Kill Team supported by agents of the Inquisition and Astra Militarum as newly sanctioned Inquisitors. If waging war against the Xenos and holding back the tides of Chaos is your vocation, this is the game for you.
Dawn of War 4 finally has a release date
The latest chapter in the popular Dawn of War series, Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War 4, finally has a release date set for Sept. 17, with pre-orders now live for the standard and Commander editions. The latter includes all Year One content and the official digital soundtrack. Following launch, a year of free content updates and paid DLC will expand the game. Free updates include the return of Crusade Mode, new modes, map packs, and the mission editor. Paid DLCs will include two campaign expansions: the Blood Ravens Story Prologue and the Aftermath Campaign Expansion.
Warhammer 40,000: Mechanicus 2 has also been released today on PC and console. If that weren't enough, a new DLC for Warhammer 40,000: Darktide is coming on June 23, adding a new playable class, the Skitarii. A Deluxe Edition with extra Skitarii gear will be available at launch.
More Warhammer games are coming to mobile
Finally, Auroch Digital announced two demos for their titles, the retro first-person shooter Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun 2 and the Vampire Survivors-inspired roguelite Warhammer Survivors, with the latter also launching on mobile platforms. Android (Google Play Store) and iOS (Apple App Store) users will also get their own version of a Boltgun game, Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun Boom, developed by Nitro Games in association with Auroch Digital, coming in 2026.
Total War draws near
Wait, what about Total War: Warhammer 40,000, the much-anticipated game that was wishlisted more than 1 million times on Steam after its announcement? Fear not, proud scion of the Emperor of Mankind! The legendary Commander Yarrick appeared in a teaser trailer that confirmed the game will take place on Armageddon, a war at the fringes of the Imperium, locked in constant warfare.
In terms of crossovers, a collaboration with PlayStation and Arrowhead Game Studios’ Helldivers 2 is coming later this year, alongside the launch of the console collaboration with Rust, which allows PlayStation and Xbox players to get suited up in cosmetics inspired by the Death Korps of Krieg.
And if you feel like your gaming chair is not worthy of the glory of the Emperor, then SecretLab has what you need, with preorders open for the Titan Evo Warhammer 40,000 Dark Angels Edition. Maybe sitting like a Primarch will improve your tactical skills!
