When it comes to first-party exclusives, it feels like Sony and PlayStation Studios are on another level.
2025 saw a cavalcade of critically acclaimed hits, such as Ghost of Yotei and Death Stranding 2: On the Beach. The strength of Sony's first-party lineup goes well beyond that, making it a great year for PlayStation fans.
As good as 2025 was, 2026 could be even better. While the release calendar for Sony games in 2026 may be a little light, Sony Interactive Entertainment has proven that quality beats quantity every day of the week.

5 Marathon
Release Date: March 5th
It still doesn't feel real that Marathon has a release date.
Bungie, which is owned by Sony Interactive Entertainment, has been under fire throughout Marathon's development cycle. There were many who not only scoffed at the idea of yet another extraction shooter entering the market, but one filled with controversy throughout its development.
Now, with confirmation of a March 5th release date, Marathon is already one of the best-selling games on Steam. If Marathon can defy the odds and deliver, it would be one of the biggest surprises of the year.
Given the controversy surrounding the game's development, it would make one heck of a redemption story if Marathon had been worth the wait. Bungie is more than capable of delivering the goods, but it's a tall task to dethrone something as popular as ARC Raiders. We'll see how it turns out this March.
4 Saros
Release Date: March 20th
Following the success of Returnal, Housemarque is back with another third-person Roguelike in Saros.
This time, they're incorporating bullet hell elements as a new gameplay twist, as well as featuring Rahul Kohli as the game's protagonist and player character.
While much of the DNA and foundation that made Returnal will be in place for Saros, Housemarque also wanted to expand on the game's narrative structure. You can expect a stronger focus on storytelling here, along with the same style of gameplay you already know and love.
Saros has been a staple of Sony's marketing over the past year plus since its 2025 announcement, indicating that the company expects big things from it. The success of Returnal was enough for Sony to acquire Housemarque as a member of the PlayStation Studios family in 2021, the same year Returnal was released for the PS5.
With Saros being a spiritual successor to Returnal, along with the expanded budget and scope, it's quickly become one of the most anticipated PlayStation games of 2026.
3 MLB The Show 26
Release Date: Spring 2026
The above image is from MLB The Show 25.
In 2025, MLB The Show continued to prove why it's one of the best sports franchises on the market. MLB The Show 25 was one of the best sports games of the year.
With that being said, I can't help but be surprised that we haven't heard a peep about MLB The Show 26 yet. At the time of writing, pitchers and catchers report for 2026 MLB Spring Training in just a few weeks, with the season set to begin here in just under two months. Baseball will be here before we know it, and with it comes another year of MLB The Show.
What this year's version of the game will look like remains to be seen, but I have full confidence that MLB The Show 26 will be another great baseball game.
Given the fact that there's a non-zero chance that the league will undergo a lockout in 2027, a stellar baseball game to distract us from the Los Angeles Dodgers spending infinite money while other teams refuse to pay their homegrown talent is just what the doctor ordered.
2 Marvel's Wolverine
Release Date: Fall 2026
It was a long time coming, but Marvel's Wolverine grand reveal was worth the wait.
Following in the footsteps of their work on Marvel's Spider-Man, Insomniac Games aims to deliver the brutal, visceral look and feel of one of Marvel's most iconic characters in Wolverine.
While yes, Wolverine has had his fair share in the spotlight over the years, there's a reason for it. Aside from Spider-Man, Wolverine is arguably one of, if not the, most popular Marvel superheroes, as well as the most popular X-Men member. Wolverine is one of the most complex Marvel characters, capable of unleashing devastating violence, as well as having a mature and intriguing backstory.
This is also an excellent chance to introduce a wide cast of characters. We know that Omega Red, Mystique, and Sentinels will be in the game. There are also rumors of an appearance by Jean Grey as well.
Marvel's Wolverine looks violent, the combat looks intense, and like it should be one heck of a good time. Even in a year when Grand Theft Auto 6 is set to release, Sony's first-party exclusive is one of the year's most anticipated games.
1 Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls
Release Date: 2026
Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls
Developed by Arc System Works and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment, Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls quickly made the shortlist for most anticipated fighting game of 2026 the very second it was announced.
Arc System Works' reputation speaks for itself; you can make the argument that there is no better fighting game developer on the back of the recent success of Guilty Gear Strive. Now you're telling me that they're making a 4v4 Marvel fighting game that gives me Marvel vs. Capcom vibes? Yeah, I'm sold.
While reactions from the beta have been mixed, there's still plenty of time to right the ship and deliver what could be one of Sony's best games in 2026. There's so much potential here that I'd be shocked to see Fighting Souls disappoint.
To be honest, I don't necessarily want it to play like the Marvel vs. Capcom series. I trust Arc System Works to deliver an experience that's wholly their own. Given their track record, they deserve to cook. Who knows, with all the hype around Avengers: Doomsday, plus Marvel's Wolverine, 2026 could be a big year for Marvel.
