Following eight tumultuous years in development, multiple internal delays, and the literal dissolution of an entire studio, it seems the wait to return to the dark fairy tales of Fabletown is finally nearing its end.

The highly anticipated sequel, The Wolf Among Us 2, made a triumphant return to the stage during the live Summer Game Fest showcase on June 5, and the presentation confidently pointed out that the project is definitely rising from the ashes, leaving past production hurdles behind with no more delays in sight (or, at least, we hope so).

Bigby Wolf Prepares for a Cold New Mystery

During the event, a brand-new trailer was revealed, showcasing Bigby, the Big Bad Wolf, surrounded by the franchise’s signature neon-soaked comic book aesthetics and gritty noir atmosphere, alongside other familiar faces such as Bluebeard and Colin (the pig).

The footage sets the stage for a compelling new investigation, though it sadly doesn't disclose too many explicit details regarding the core plot just yet. However, what truly matters to the patient player base is that Telltale Games officially announced the sequel is finally launching next year, locking in a 2027 release window. You can check out the official Summer Game Fest trailer for The Wolf Among Us 2 right below:

If the foundational development details remain consistent with previous studio updates, The Wolf Among Us 2 is being built from the ground up using Unreal Engine 5. And its narrative is set to take place roughly six months after the dramatic events of the original season, transporting players to various gritty locations across New York City during an unforgiving winter. Also, fans can naturally expect to see the return of beloved characters, including Bigby Wolf (well, of course, he’s in the new trailer!) and Snow White, as they attempt to maintain order among the hidden fairytale community.

Telltale Games officially announced the sequel is finally launching next year, locking in a 2027 release window.

But that’s not all! In an unexpected twist that caught the entire audience off guard, Telltale Games also announced that the original The Wolf Among Us is receiving a full remaster. Even better, it is arriving much sooner than anyone could have anticipated: slated to launch during this upcoming holiday season.

While a remaster wasn't on anyone's radar, it definitely serves as the perfect opportunity for newcomers to experience the narrative or for veterans to refresh their memories ahead of the sequel.

As a reminder, the series is directly based on Fables, the acclaimed comic book series created by Bill Willingham and published under DC Comics’ iconic Vertigo imprint. This universe basically handles classic folklore and fairytale characters, approaching them through a mature, dark, and also a bit cynical lens that subverts traditional expectations.

As for The Wolf Among Us 2’s journey so far, the game’s development has certainly gone through its fair share of ups and downs over the past eight years. When the original Telltale Games shuttered its doors back in 2018, the future of Bigby Wolf seemed permanently compromised. Even after the brand was revived by LCG Entertainment, the sequel faced even more delays, navigating a massive engine transition and industry-wide restructuring.

Now, with both a remaster on the horizon and a definitive sequel locked in for next year, it seems that the world of Fables is officially back in full force!
