Saros is the latest bullet hell galore from Housemarque, and while the game is readily more accessible than its predecessor, it still has a few mechanics that can mildly complicate the newbie player or even a veteran. Pair this one with a beginner's guide and be prepared to make your experience feel more reassuring.

Saros Review: Housemarque Delivers a Masterful Loop of Survival and Loss

Saros proves Housemarque’s engaging and precision gameplay mastery once again.

One of the most important mechanic in Saros is the new Growth Attributes for Arjun, which correlate to his stats and weapons. Knowing exactly how they influence the gameplay is pivotal, so join me as I briefly discuss what each one entails and what their corrupted counterparts mean in Saros.

What Are Attributes in Saros

To give you a brief and quick overview, Growth Attributes essentially function as Arjun's character stats. There are three types of attributes: Resilience, Command, and Drive. Each of these has a unique property, and you'll be able to periodically increase them while exploring by collecting artifacts or certain drops from enemies.

saros volatile attributes

Attribute Volatility: Pushing a Growth Attribute beyond its cap at some point will cause your attribute on subsequent gains to become volatile. Each attribute in the volatile state can have negative effects.

You'll have a baseline value for these attributes that you can permanently increase from the Armor Matrix, but the ones that you increase from gameplay will end up resetting once you die or get back to The Passage. These Growth Attributes also influence your weapon stats, depending on which one you get. The higher the matching attribute, the better the gun's performance parameters.

Every Attribute Explained

Resilience

Resilience indicates your maximum Armor Integrity or HP. The higher this attribute, the more damage that Arjun can sustain from incoming enemy attacks or environmental hazards.

If you're looking to make the most out of your survivability during runs, consider prioritizing this attribute early on to upgrade and boost in Saros because the higher your resilience, the more tankier you'll become in the long run.

Increasing resilience to its volatile state will cause it to become Arrogance, which makes enemies' health bars invisible. Not much downside to this, but it can be tricky in boss fights, especially if you want to judge how much of their current phase is left.

Command

saros command

The Power Weapon is one of the newest additions to the arsenal that you can use against enemies and bosses in Saros, and it is tied to your Command attribute alongside the deployable shield.

The higher the value of your Command attribute, the more of the on-screen power gauge you can access, as well as allowing you to fire off more shots from Power Weapons. It'll also mean you can use your shield for longer before having to recharge again from scratch.

Pushing Command beyond its limits will transform it into Ignorance. The negative effect of this attribute's volatile state prevents you from seeing the Corruption Effects on Artifacts.

Drive

saros drive

Lastly, Drive is a Growth Attribute that determines the rate at which collected Lumenite gets converted into the Proficiency Levels. The higher this stat, the more quickly your Proficiency Levels for weapons increase, allowing you to gain guns with more perk variety in them and better performance due to their increasingly higher levels.

However, the volatile state of Drive is perhaps the riskiest of them all, as when it's turned into Negligence, you'll lose all your Lucenite upon death. This isn't an issue if you've already managed to purchase all the Lucenite nodes off of the Armor Matrix.
