Playground Games, the studio behind Forza Horizon 6, is breathing new life into the beloved RPG series, Fable, and the original creator is shedding tears of joy.

After seeing the Fable reveal trailer, creator Peter Molyneux says he had an emotional reaction as he realized the series is about to get a second wind, "This thing that we spent so much time on has got new life — it's going to continue and entertain and bring joy to people."

Playground Games certainly has big shoes to fill, as a die-hard fanbase eagerly awaits the revival of a classic series, but according to Molyneux, the new Fable is giving off the right vibes. "I thought that the world that [Playground has] created looked faithful to Fable."

Fable is known and loved for giving players the freedom to forge their own path and make impactful decisions in a world that is rough-around-the-edges and filled with character and comedy.

While Molyneux is clearly pleased with the way the reboot looks at first glance, his only gripe was that the world felt a bit cleaner than before. "They've really embraced the humor aspect, they've embraced some of the freedom that they allow the players: those are all positives. The only slight negative that I have is that there was a slightly antiseptic feel about the world."

Fable Finally Launching This Fall Along With A New, Complex Morality System

Fable takes place in the Olde English world of Albion, where characters kick chickens and wear oversized clothing, and that was part of the game's quirky charm: "It was stupid and ridiculous; it wasn't realistic. For me, that dirt and lack of cleanliness actually added to the character of the overall game."

Although Molyneux says the reboot feels slightly antiseptic, overall, it's easy to see that he is a fan of the direction Playground Games is taking, and says he will be one of the first people to play the game.

As seen in the reveal trailer, Fable will include an all-new morality system that will allow players to become loved by everyone for doing good deeds or frowned upon and heckled for causing mayhem and being a nuisance.

The Fable reboot is set to launch in Autumn 2026, and will be available on Steam, Xbox Series X/S, Game Pass, and PlayStation 5.
