A long overdue return to the best stories of the Wasteland may be on the cards, as a rumor is stating that Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas are being remade or remastered for modern systems, in the same manner as The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered.

The Fallout series is seeing a surge of popularity, thanks to the highly acclaimed live-action TV show. This has led people to check out existing titles, with Fallout 4 seeing a bump on Steam as new fans eager to check out the source material. It's been confirmed that Fallout 5 will tie into the TV show, but who knows when that'll be released?

War never changes, and Bethesda doesn't, either.

It seems that Bethesda is finally getting off its backside and making the classic Fallout titles more readily available. According to Jez Corden of Windows Central, remakes/remasters of Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas are in development, though they're unrelated to a countdown on the TV show's website.

Fallout 3 & New Vegas Remasters Could Be On The Way

It's unclear whether Bethesda or Obsidian is working on the remakes, or whether the projects are being handed off to a different studio. It's just shocking that it's taken this long, considering the Fallout TV show has already been a huge hit, yet there's been no new video game content launching alongside it.

Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas are often cited as the best entries in the series, yet they don't even have native ports for Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, or Xbox. The only easy way to play them is on PC or through backward compatibility on Xbox Series X/S.

As the Fallout TV show is receiving a third season, it's likely that the Fallout 3 and New Vegas remakes will be ready by the time it launches, giving new fans a chance to see the quality content that led to the show's creation in the first place. Remakes of these games are long overdue, as they're also badly in need of updated visuals and bug fixes, making them more palatable to modern audiences.
