The Director of the upcoming third entry in the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy has said the game could receive DLC, much like the first game did, which might make up for taking DLC away from Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth.
Final Fantasy 7 Remake added a handful of DLC chapters in its later releases, making Yuffie playable and giving her the chance to explore Midgar. Many expected the sequel to do the same, likely giving fans their first chance to play as Cid or Vincent, but Square Enix shot down the idea of any DLC content.
While Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth might not have DLC, the same isn't necessarily true of its sequel. According to Director Naoki Hamaguchi in an interview with ntower, he kept the door open for expansions for the third game, depending on fan response.
Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 Will Get DLC If There's Fan Demand
Image Via Square EnixHamaguchi confirmed that Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth didn't receive DLC because production on the next game had already begun. DLC was considered, but completing it would have meant taking time away from the third game and pushing it back even further.
Hamaguchi is open to the idea of DLC for the third game, but it would depend on demand, which is a loose way of saying that it depends on whether it sells well. Luckily, the next game will likely be a multiplatform release, and with Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Rebirth on Xbox Series X/S and Nintendo Switch 2, there's a bigger potential audience than before.

The big question fans are left with is what the DLC for the third game could even be, considering it's meant to be the end of the story. Perhaps there will be one based on Advent Children or Dirge of Cerberus, loosely adapting the sequel games, or maybe it will give the story a brand-new conclusion? Maybe fans will find out what Genesis was blathering on about in his final Dirge of Cerberus scene.
Whatever the case, it seems that the story of Final Fantasy 7 Remake might not be over just yet. There's enough story content remaining to make several more games, especially if the spin-offs and novels are considered, and some of it might appear in the final title in trilogy.
