First look at Sophie Turner as Lara Croft in Tomb Raider TV show

Amazon MGM Studios gave Tomb Raider fans their first look at the new Lara Croft on Thursday, with actor Sophie Turner stepping into the treasure hunter's familiar 'fit for her upcoming live-action TV series, Tomb Raider. It's an iconic look; Turner's sporting the dual pistols, gloves, shorts, and red-tinted glasses seen in classic renders of Lara from the '90s. It's also very close to Lara Croft's current "unified" look that will be used in her next video games.

Turner, best known for her roles as Sansa Stark in Game of Thrones and young Jean Grey in the X-Men film franchise, landed the role of Lara Croft last year. The action-adventure game icon has been portrayed in film previously by Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander. Hayley Atwell voices the adventurer in Netflix's animated series, Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft. Turner's version looks authentic to how early PlayStation fans will remember her.

Joining Turner in Tomb Raider are Sigourney Weaver, Jason Isaacs, Martin Bobb-Semple, Jack Bannon, John Heffernan, Bill Paterson, Paterson Joseph, Sasha Luss, Juliette Motamed, Celia Imrie, and August Wittgenstein. The series is led by Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Fleabag, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny), who serves as creator, writer, executive producer, and co-showrunner — alongside Chad Hodge (Wayward Pines, Good Behavior) as co-showrunner and executive producer. Jonathan Van Tulleken (Shōgun, Misfits) who will serve as director and executive producer.

Production is underway on Tomb Raider at Amazon MGM Studios. The series, which will be streaming on Prime Video, does not have an announced release date.

Next up for Lara is a remake of the original game that started the franchise. Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, which is being made by Crystal Dynamics and Flying Wild Hog and published by Amazon Game Studios, drops in 2026. An all-new Lara Croft adventure will arrive in 2027: Tomb Raider: Catalyst, which is being developed by modern series steward Crystal Dynamics and aims to be the most ambitious entry in the Tomb Raider franchise yet
