Masters of The Universe – Official Teaser Trailer Image: Amazon MGM Studios

Masters of the Universe will bring He-Man, Skeletor, and, yes, even Fisto to the silver screen in live-action in 2026, nearly four decades after the previous (disastrous) attempt to bring Mattel's action figures to life. On Thursday (as promised), Amazon MGM Studios revealed the first full trailer for Masters of the Universe, giving us our first official look at Nicholas Galitzine's He-Man and Jared Leto's Skeletor.

It's a big series of reveals, as characters like Beast-Man, Man-at-Arms, and Evil-Lyn all get some face time in the first big trailer for Masters of the Universe.

According to Amazon MGM's official synopsis of the film, Masters of the Universe will follow 10-year-old Prince Adam who crashed to Earth in a spaceship and was separated from his magical Power Sword, the only link to his home on Eternia. After tracking it down almost two decades later, Prince Adam is whisked back across space to defend his home planet against the evil forces of Skeletor. But to defeat such a powerful villain, Prince Adam will first need to uncover the mysteries of his past and become He-Man: the most powerful man in the Universe.

Masters of the Universe is directed by Travis Knight (Kubo and the Two Strings, Bumblebee), based on a screenplay by Chris Butler (ParaNorman, Missing Link).

Joining Galitzine and Leto in Masters of the Universe are Alison Brie as Evil-Lyn, Idris Elba as Duncan/Man-at-Arms, Camila Mendes as Teela, Sam C. Wilson as Trap Jaw, Hafthor Björnsson as Goat Man, Kojo Attah as Tri-Klops, Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson as Malcolm/Fisto, and Morena Baccarin as the Sorceress.

Mattel’s Masters of the Universe was first introduced to the world in 1982 through a line of action figures, which was followed by the animated series He-Man and the Masters of the Universe. The original animation ran for just two seasons, across 130 episodes, but spawned multiple spinoffs (e.g., She-Ra: Princess of Power), sequel series (including two Netflix animated series), and animated movies.

The new Masters of the Universe will be released in movie theaters on June 5, 2026. He-Man will then get a new video game, beat-'em-up He-Man and the Masters of the Universe: Dragon Pearl of Destruction, at some point after.

In the wake of Barbie's success in 2023, Mattel went all in on toy-to-screen adaptations. In addition to Masters of the Universe, Mattel Films is now in production on multiple movies and live-action series based on toys, including View-Master (written by Zootopia scribe Phil Johnston), Rock 'Em Sock 'Em Robots (to be directed by Vin Diesel), Magic 8 Ball (from M. Night Shyamalan and Brad Falchuk), and Hot Wheels (coming from Wicked director Jon M. Chu).
