Things are not so happy in this valley

Ronald D. Moore, Matt Wolpert, and Ben Nedivi's award-winning sci-fi drama For All Mankind, based on an alternate history where the "global space race never ended," is back for yet another nail-biting and high-stakes season.

Last season's main conflict had us following a mineral-rich asteroid as it approached Mars, while the world's major powers schemed to capture and mine it for themselves. As expected, this led to some intense emotions, bold and terrible decisions, and a finale that can only be described as epic.

In For All Mankind season 5, a new chapter on Mars (and beyond) begins. After the events of the Goldilocks asteroid heist, the Mars colony Happy Valley has grown substantially, with thousands of residents and a new base that the colonists hope will expand space travel and enable them to further explore the solar system.

However, despite the name, things are not so happy in the valley. Earth is now demanding far more law and order on Mars, and tensions between the people living on Mars and those on Earth are reaching a boiling point. Considering what happened in previous seasons when things got tense, we suspect tempers are about to blow.

The teaser trailer didn't reveal all that much — outside of some sick motorcycle shreds on the red planet, that is. But with an ominous voiceover that says everything in the previous seasons has led to this point, it looks as though For All Mankind is gearing up for yet another ambitious season that will explore a new part of this never-ending space race.

Previous season regulars Joel Kinnaman (The Killing) as Ed Baldwin, Toby Kebbell (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes) as Miles Dales, Edi Gathegi (Twilight) as Dev Ayesa, Cynthy Wu (American Vandal) as Kelly Baldwin, Coral Peña (Blindspot) as Aleida Rosales, and Wrenn Schmidt (Nope) as Margo Madison will return for the fifth season. They'll be joined by Mirelle Enos (Hanna), Costa Ronin (Homeland), Sean Kaufman (The Summer I Turned Pretty), Ruby Cruz (Bottoms), and Ines Asserson (Royalteen).

For All Mankind season 5 debuts on March 27 on Apple TV. All previous seasons (1-4) are available to stream on Apple TV.
