Get ready for a storm rhombus or parallelogram

Since time immemorial, Fortnite has pressured players to gather in increasingly small spaces through an ever-shifting storm shaped like a circle. The lead-up to the latest chapter switched things up with a storm shaped like a 7, but it wasn't long before the game reverted to its natural state. It appears that this was just the beginning of a larger experiment with Fortnite's signature mechanic, however.
It's been rumored for a long time, but recently Fortnite leakers with proven track records shared a video on social media depicting a variety of different shapes that Epic Games is apparently considering for the battle royale game. There are standard geometric shapes, like triangles, rectangles, and squares. There are also peculiar shapes, like the one that resembles Star Trek's insignia. Fittingly, Epic Games has seemingly tested out a festive shape as well, with a storm that looks like a Christmas tree.
Given that the "7" shape leaked ahead of time, it seems credible that at least some of the new shapes will hit Fortnite at some point. Chapter 7 has also seen Epic Games take a more playful approach to many of Fortnite's major mechanics, like having players surf onto the island rather than dropping from the air. Reception has been mixed thus far. Where many fans seemed to dislike the surf mechanic, other game-changing alterations, like self-revives or driveable reboot vans, have enriched the game in novel ways.
So while it seems believable that Fortnite's storm might continue evolving into something new, there's no telling when Epic Games might implement some of these ideas — and which ones might not make the cut. Given that Fortnite's Winterfest is around the corner, we might find out if that tree shape was serious after all.
