Fans of Frieren: Beyond Journey's End who were waiting for this weekend's Anime Japan to get news about season 3 of the popular anime got a pleasant surprise today. As announced by the series' official X account, Frieren, Fern, and Stark will be back for a third season, but that's where the good news ends.
The third season of Frieren will be released in October 2027, a much longer wait than fans were hoping for. Considering the short number of episodes of season 2, there was a chance that this could be treated as a "cour," a season half, and that the follow-up could come sooner. This turned out not to be the case, and 19 months will have to pass before we see the elven mage return to the screen.
Still, one of the most important lessons in Frieren is learning to give time its proper value. Often, in the story, the protagonists are forced to stop during their long journey and wait, sometimes for months, before they can resume it again. Frieren teaches us that it's OK to wait, as long as we keep our goals in sight and we make every day count. Hopefully, this will make the long wait for October 2027 a little more bearable.
Frieren: Beyond Journey's End's panel at Anime Japan 2026 will take place on Sunday, March 29. While it's unlikely, fans could still get a glimpse of what's to come in season 3. For now, we know that the anime will finally adapt the Golden City Arc from the manga. The Frieren Party will have to face its strongest opponent to date, Macht, the last remaining member of the Seven Sages of Destruction, the strongest demons in the service of the Demon King.
