Galactic Vault’s movement is quick and responsive, featuring sliding alongside jumping and sprinting, as well as melee attacks, grenades, and aiming down sights. It feels like reloading while sprinting should be possible, but that is not currently the case. Nonetheless, it’s fairly simple to outrun and outmaneuver enemies. One unusual feature is the ability to aim down sights while sliding. Each run gives access to one gun from a large selection spanning pistols, shotguns, SMGs, assault rifles, and sniper rifles in Galactic Vault. Most weapons must first be unlocked using resources earned during previous runs. The random roguelite upgrades mainly come in the form of weapon attachments, including barrels, magazines, scopes, and ammo types.

Encounters are confined to individual rooms with objectives like capturing points, destroying marked objects, or eliminating all enemies. Completing a room rewards a new attachment. After certain milestones, underbarrel attachments grant active abilities at Galactic Vault, followed later by movement abilities, each with additional upgrade choices. Underbarrel abilities range from grenade launchers to lifesteal darts and black holes, while movement abilities include air dashes, ground pounds, and even automatic melee attacks while sliding.

Enemies drop credits and occasionally health, shield, and grenade refills. Shields do not regenerate and mostly function as a second health bar, while upgrades generally affect either health or shields, but not both. Several difficulty levels are available in Galactic Vault, with higher settings featuring longer runs, additional rooms, stronger enemies, and extra boss fights. There’s also a custom run option that allows room layouts and enemy types to be selected freely. Completing a run on Impossible, the greatest known difficulty, remains a significant challenge and may require additional permanent upgrades.
