After recent rumors and speculation, Xbox CEO Asha Sharma confirmed that Xbox console exclusives are back in a big way.
During the 2026 Xbox Games Showcase, the fun kicked off with a new trailer for Gears of War: E-Day, the upcoming prequel to the Gears of War franchise. We'll learn more about what we can expect later today during the Gears of War: E-Day Direct, but perhaps the biggest news of all is the fact that E-Day will be an Xbox console exclusive when it launches on October 6th, 2026.
Halo: Campaign Evolved's First Official New Content is a Bizarre Fanta Collab
Xbox has officially begun the marketing for Halo: Campaign Evolved via a new, bizarre collab with Fanta.
This is the first Xbox console exclusive in quite some time; Forza Horizon 6 and Halo: Campaign Evolved are both releasing on the PlayStation 5, much to the dismay of Xbox fans who have been frustrated with the company's direction as of late.
We've heard that change is coming in an effort to bring Xbox back, and we can now hear that change loud and clear. It's one of many changes that Sharma has been making since assuming the role after the departure of Phil Spencer and Sarah Bond from the company earlier this year.
New Xbox CEO Asha Sharma Has Been Busy Changing Xbox For the Better
While the Xbox 360 was a massive success back in the day, the Xbox platform has been on a steady downward slope since the launch of the Xbox One. There have been several reasons for this, from the frustrating anti-consumer practices of the Xbox One console itself, as well as a disappointing slew of first-party games failing to give anyone a reason to purchase an Xbox.
Despite the company's best attempts to win gamers over, such as with Xbox Game Pass being a fantastic deal (well, it was until they hiked the price up) and their efforts to make any device an Xbox, most people simply shrugged and were content to keep gaming on PlayStation, PC, and Nintendo Switch.
Every Gears of War Game Ever Released, Ranked
Every Gears of War game ranked from worst to best, from the Xbox 360 days of Gears of War 1 to modern PlayStation expansion in Gears of War: Reloaded.
After all, if games like Halo were coming to competing platforms, why would anyone need to buy an Xbox? Heck, if you can just stream from your PC to a Fire Stick, why would you even need to buy a console, period?
It seems like Sharma agrees, and has been focused on doing what she can to bring back the glory days of Xbox. Bringing back console exclusives for anticipated first-party games is a great way to make that happen, especially with Sony pulling back on porting their games to PC and having console exclusives of their own. We'll see if it pays off in the long run, but for now, there's a lot of excitement around Xbox.
More as it develops.
