Since Sony announced it was remaking the original God of War trilogy, there’s been a fair bit of speculation about whether or not the PS5 versions of the PS2 classics would bring back some of the more controversial elements for a modern audience. Top of mind has been the sex minigames that had players doing QTEs for powerups during group sex scenes, elements which were contentious at the time and would likely be more so in the 2020s. I personally think it would be a mistake for a series that has spent the better part of a decade focusing on a protagonist who is trying to be better to start hiding the truth about its past now, and according to Kratos voice actor T.C. Carson, it sounds like those scenes may survive the remake process.
Carson made an appearance at Megacon Orlando last month, and during a panel hosted by IGN’s Jeffrey Vega, the actor was asked if the “intimate romance minigames” would be making a return in the remake. While Carson wasn’t able to confirm for sure, it sounds like he is privy to some information.
“You know what, all you dudes, all you men…I think so,” Carson said.
When Vega joked that this was “breaking news,” Carson clarified that this wasn’t confirmation, reasserting that he said “I think so,” rather than giving a definitive thumbs up.
The remakes have Carson returning to the role of Kratos for the first time since God of War: Ascension, which was the last game in the series to take place in Greece before it moved on to Norse mythology with the 2018 reboot. When the series made this transition, Christopher Judge took on the role of the god of war, and it seems Sony is choosing to maintain that divide by having Carson pick up the Blades of Chaos for the remakes. Carson also narrated God of War: Sons of Sparta, in which he recounts a story of a younger Kratos as a Spartan in training.
