GOG is giving away the first three Alone in the Dark games for free for a limited time. For the next three days, GOG users can claim the survival horror trilogy via the giveaway section on GOG. All you have to do is click "add to library" and the horror games are yours.

In the original Alone in the Dark from 1992, you investigate and try to escape from a haunted mansion in 1920s Louisiana. The second game is less horrific than the first, but no less interesting; you'll play as Edward Carnby once again as he goes up against mobsters and pirates, with a supernatural twist. Alone in the Dark 3 finds Carnby investigating the disappearance of a film crew in a cursed town.

Alone in the Dark and its sequels are often regarded as purveyors of the 3D survival horror genre. They were released before any Resident Evil or Silent Hill games came out. Of course, those series have had more staying power than Alone in the Dark. The series was rebooted in 2024, but the Jodie Comer and David Harbour-starring reimagining of the original game failed to impress critics much and undersold against publisher THQ Nordic's expectations, eventually causing developer Pieces Interactive to be shutdown.

If you want to check out the original survival horror franchise at no cost, you'll have until Thursday February 5 at 9 a.m. eastern to add the Alone in the Dark games to your GOG library.
