The show imploded after Gaiman was accused of sexual assault, but a 90-minute finale movie is coming in May

You can’t change anything,” the demon Crowley (David Tennant) hisses at his angelic foil Aziraphale (Michael Sheen) in the Good Omens season 3 trailer Prime Video released on April 15. That nihilistic sentiment is a fitting summation of the TV series, whose third season was compressed into a 90-minute movie after creator Neil Gaiman faced multiple allegations of sexual assault in 2024.
[Ed. note: This story contains major spoilers for Good Omens season 2.]
Based on the 1990 novel by Gaiman and Terry Pratchett, Good Omens follows an angel and a devil who largely shirk their duties on Earth to enjoy observing humanity, pursuing their own interests, and spending time together. Season 1 is a fairly faithful adaptation of the original book about the duo trying to stop the apocalypse. Season 2 feels a lot like fanfic, mostly focusing on the possibility of a romantic relationship between the characters the Good Omens fandom has dubbed Ineffable Husbands. Season 2 ends in heartbreak when Aziraphale rejects Crowley’s confession of love and his offer to run away together, and instead decides to return to heaven and take on the role of Supreme Archangel.
The season 3 trailer shows that Aziraphale predictably regrets that choice. He’s tasked with overseeing the Second Coming of Jesus, but heaven loses track of Jesus (Bilal Hasna of Extraordinary), who is left wandering around Earth while being hunted by demons. Aziraphale turns to Crowley for help, literally picking him out of the gutter and bringing him to heaven to once again try to stop the end of the world and protect humanity. In one scene, Crowley has some weird white streaks in his hair, which could be a sign that he’s been partially redeemed, or just that he's gotten a dose of angelic magic from Aziraphale to slip him through the pearly gates.
Photo: Sanne Gault/Prime VideoThe past two seasons of Good Omens tended to drag when the subplots took the action away from the show’s stars. But 90 minutes still seems like a very short time to wrap up a cosmic plot and a relationship drama fans desperately hope will get a happy ending. While Douglas Mackinnon directed every previous episode of the show, the finale will be directed by Rachel Talalay, whose credits include The Flash and Iron Fist.
Good Omens was among many projects based on Gaiman’s work that were canceled in the wake of the accusations against him. Netflix completed its two-season adaptation of The Sandman in 2025, but killed the spin-off Dead Boy Detectives. Disney’s adaptation of The Graveyard Book was put on indefinite hold. Prime Video planned to release a miniseries based on Anansi Boys in 2025, and while shooting was completed, star Delroy Lindo told Entertainment Weekly that he doesn’t expect it will “ever see the light of day.”
The Good Omens finale will premiere on Prime Video on May 13.
