Google Investing Millions into AI with Studio Behind Elden Ring

Elden Ring's live-action movie adaptation is currently in production and is expected to be ready by March 2028. This movie is being made by the A24 movie studio, which will also be handling the Death Stranding movie, and Google has just given them a massive investment to use for AI research.

According to a report from The Wall Street Journal, Google is investing $75 million in the A24 movie studio, while Google's DeepMind AI team will help A24 develop new movie production tools.

Google's First Movie Studio Investment is a Massive One

A24 has created a long list of successful movies, such as Marty Supreme, Backrooms, and Everything Everywhere All at Once, so it's safe to say the Death Stranding and Elden Ring movies are in great hands as is, but now, they'll be fully equipped to take on the biggest projects the movie industry has to offer.

The main question a lot of people will have is what A24 will do with all of this AI research, and whether there will be any AI-generated visuals in the Elden Ring and Death Stranding movies. The answer to this question is unclear. We don't currently know how exactly they plan to use all of this AI research, just that they'll be developing production tools.

Artificial Intelligence has been one of the most controversial topics in video games and film, especially. As we've seen in recent years, many studios are 'restructuring', laying off massive amounts of employees, and investing mind-boggling amounts of money into AI, but it's hard not to think this is just a way to increase profits and replace people rather than make the jobs of developers and film editors less tedious.

At the base of it, the more AI we use, the fewer jobs will be available. Will it be easier for companies to make these insanely cool-looking movies and video games? Absolutely, but there's no denying the consequences here.

There's a lot of work to be done behind the scenes of movie and game development that takes employees a ton of time to do by hand, and we're seeing more and more companies use AI to generate story ideas and visual references, and to speed up the process of creating visual effects.

Google's DeepMind AI team will be helping A24 create tools to use for movie production, and that's really all we know about it at this time. There's currently no reason to believe any AI-generated visuals will be seen in the upcoming Elden Ring or Death Stranding movies, but we can't say for sure.

The Elden Ring movie is being directed by Alex Garland, who is best known for his work on Ex Machina, Annihilation, and 28 Days Later, and will be joined by a stacked cast of amazing actors.

Death Stranding Movie is in Pre-Production

As mentioned earlier, A24 is also making a Death Stranding movie in collaboration with Kojima Productions. The Death Stranding movie is currently in pre-production and will be directed by Michael Sarnoski, who has already worked with A24 as the director of The Death of Robin Hood.

Sarnoski is also known for directing the movie Pig and A Quiet Place: Day One, with John Krasinski.
