The Sawmill has some interesting people hanging out there, and Mr. Handshake wants you to find out what they are up to. I Went, I Saw, I Conquered is an honest-to-God recon mission that requires you to put your operator skillset to good use in Gray Zone Warfare.

You will need to survey a large area, then conduct an in-depth search of an enemy-controlled stronghold. The best part? This is a mission that resets with death, so you will need to be quite methodical to avoid waking up in the infirmary with no quest or gear.

I Went, I Saw, I Conquered was completely redone with update 0.4 Spearhead in March 2026. This guide reflects the updated version of this task.

Mission Preparations

The Sawmill is occupied by Cambodian gunrunners and can be divided into two sections: the log yard on the west side and the main facility on the east.

This mission will take you through all the buildings on the east side. CQB is inevitable, but if you bring a scope, you can pick off some of the enemies from the ridge on the south side to thin out the resistance.

Given how much ground you need to cover and the number of enemies, sneaking in at night is not a viable strategy, though if you have NVGs, you can still use the cover of darkness to reduce enemy visibility and mutual support once the shooting starts.

The faction in the Sawmill is equipped with AK-74M, vz. 58, and AK-15 assault rifles. All enemies wear body armor rated to level III with no helmet, and fire PS ammunition that can pierce through most plates and helmets in your inventory. In other words, bring ammo that can punch through armor, because they'll have no qualms about returning the favor.

Survey the Sawmill From a Nearby Ridge

The first part of the mission is easy enough, and you can complete it almost immediately after getting off the helicopter if you chose LZ Echo 2.

Head northwest from the landing zone to grid 138, 143, where you will find a small tent. Approach it to complete the first objective.

A Boeing 737 has come down in Lamang, and Lab Rat needs to find out why.

Before you move deeper into the sawmill, use this vantage point to scout out enemy positions and, if able, shoot anyone walking in the open. The ridge is within range for them to return fire, but they are not accurate enough to be a bother.

Locate the Interrogation Transcript

Once you have the lay of the land, it's time to find out what and who the sawmill occupants have in their possession. To do this, you will have to break into the toilet turned torture chamber in the eastern offices.

There are two ways to open this area: the first is using a key that spawns inside the western offices, while the second requires hitting up the sawmill proper to retrieve the code to the padlock.

The key spawns on the edge of a desk inside the western offices building, but it can also be found as a random spawn item in enemy inventories.

If you can't find the key or don't want to search for it, head to the saw building. On the outside to the east, you will find a barbecue grill, next to which is a plastic table.

Approach the red notebook lying on it, titled Interrogation Notes, and read it to find the padlock code. This code resets every few hours and is not persistent between servers.

Armed with either the key or the code, head to the back of the eastern offices building and unlock the door to the toilet, next to the yellow cistern.

You will find a dead LAF prisoner on the floor, but what you want is a piece of paper lying on the sink. Read the Interrogation Report to pass on this information to Handshake.

Explore the Sawmill and Determine the Hostile Group's Progress with the Explosives

Head to the saw and inspect the northern end of the building, where you will find what looks to be a planning room and explosives workshop.

Approach the corkboard standing on two wooden tables and inspect it to report the group's plans to Handshake.

Search for Leads About What Happened to the Hostiles at the Sawmill

Your next objective is the warehouse building on the northern end of the sawmill, which has been hastily converted into an infirmary, indicating things did not quite go to plan when assaulting the main LAF base in the region. Turns out aura alone can't win wars.

Enter the warehouse and keep to the left. Around the middle of it, you will see a makeshift operating room, which is still covered in blood. Inspect the surgery table covered in a blue tarp to inform Handshake of the beating the enemies took.

Locate the Medic's Notes

After inspecting the warehouse, you need to double back to the eastern offices where you found the prisoner and the interrogation notes.

This time, enter through the main door and look at the marble desk with a white lamp. To the right of the lamp is a small black notebook labelled Medic's Diary. Read it to discover the horror that unfolded, and what the survivors decided to do about it.

Find Out What Happened to the Deserters

A group of survivors from the assault on Fort Narith decided they had had enough and tried to make a run for it towards the river. Handshake wants you to inspect their planned exit site to see what happened to them.

Leave the sawmill and head northwest until you hit the river. The objective is located on a fishing hut, grid 141, 145. It becomes clear from the bodies and boats that the great escape failed miserably. Inspect the aftermath of the massacre to report it to Handshake and complete the I Went, I Saw, I Conquered task.
