Alex Co has been writing about games for 15 years and running, and is a huge fan of online shooters and anything horror related.

Deckbuilding fans are in for a treat in the next few weeks as there are two games in the genre that are set to be released soon. While ThunderRam Studios' Grimslair has its sights set for release on March 6, a new game has entered the conversation that might affect its sales performance significantly.

Just a few days ago, developer Mega Crit announced that deckbuilding game Slay the Spire 2 will be entering Steam Early Access on March 5, 2026.

Given Grimslair is set to launch on March 6 and doesn't carry the same brand recognition as Mega Crit's game, it's understandable for the developers to be worried, right? This is something the ThunderRam Studios' boss has addressed head-on recently.

Grimslair Devs Are Aware Of The Competition At Launch

Over on X (formerly Twitter), game developer ThunderRam admitted the fears the studio has about releasing so close to Slay the Spire 2, stating, My original plan was simple: drop Grimslair on March 6. You wake up, sip coffee, and boom — “Grimslair Available Now.” Perfect, right?" But the release of Slay the Spire 2 has thrown a monkey wrench into their plans, as the studio boss acknowledges the two games will probably compete for the same player base.

"And let’s be honest — you’ll be playing it, I’ll be playing it, everyone will be playing it. I’m a huge fan and insanely excited. But launching a deckbuilder the same week as Slay the Spire 2? Yeah… I’d get absolutely crushed. Buying two deckbuilders in the same week? In this economy? Wild," the developer added.

However, even with that in mind, ThunderRam Studios is NOT moving the release date, since they "ain't no bitch," and still plan to release on March 6.

There will be no delay, no "TBA," no hiding until Slay the Spire 2's hype passes, but just "send it" energy, the dev notes. While releasing Grimslair's launch would mean more polish, more content, the developer prefers "violence," so they are launching anyway.

ThunderRam boss adds that they feel this is the "right call," and they'd rather launch Grimslair proudly on March 6, instead of keeping an eye out for release dates for games.

While only time will tell if ThunderRam's decision is a good one, I do have to give them their props for sticking to their original vision. Who knows? If both games are top-notch products that offer enough gameplay variety to stand apart from each other, perhaps gamers won't mind buying two deckbuilding games in a span of a week, right?

Grimslair will be released on March 6, while Slay the Spire 2 is set to release via Steam Early Access on March 5.
