Gunvolt Chronicles: Luminous Avenger iX 1+2 Dual Collection brings together and updates the apeX of 2D action for new and old players alike. The Dual Collection includes both Luminous Avenger iX 1 and 2, with all all DLC included, as well as balance adjustments. It also features a new mode, Endless Battle. Luminous Avenger iX’s Darkness Trigger “berserk” mode has been powered up. Luminous Avenger iX 2 receives a new “Spike Smash” system, powering up Copen’s main weapon, the Razor Wheel.

Every item is built in, including content that was previously limited availability. Luminous Avenger iX and Luminous Avenger iX 2 each receive a special mode, “Endless Battle”. Configure the settings to your liking before facing off against an endless onslaught of random bosses. How many will you be able to defeat? Take on the apeX challenge! Copen is a hard-boiled fighter in a grim future distopia. Can he save the powerless people he meets? And can they save him? The config for iX2 has an issue affecting keyboard users. When trying to assign the confirm (1 and 2) and cancel (1 and 2) actions to the attack and jump buttons, it doesn’t work, requiring separate keys instead.

This issue wasn’t present in the original iX2 and became apparent when comparing the Collection version with the original release. It also doesn’t affect iX1 in the Collection, only iX2, making the inconsistency particularly confusing. Although this is a fairly minor nitpick, it would have also been nice if the first melee kill granted a bonus, which was already a small complaint in the original iX2 review in Gunvolt Chronicles: Luminous Avenger iX 1+2 Dual Collection. Following the release of Gunvolt 2, the writers of the Gunvolt franchise had written themselves into a corner, leaving the series in a state where continuing the main story seemed impossible while also ending on a massive cliffhanger thanks to the secret ending.

As a way to buy time to figure out a solution while still giving Gunvolt fans something new before GV3, Inti Creates developed Luminous Avenger iX, a spin-off series set in an alternate timeline to GV2 and GV3. It follows everyone’s favorite racist, Copen (don’t worry, he’s not racist anymore in this timeline) in Gunvolt Chronicles: Luminous Avenger iX 1+2 Dual Collection, and Inti’s (and many fans’) favorite Muse, Lola. There are currently two games in the series, with a third releasing next year. As the name implies, this collection includes both games along with all of their DLC, plus a number of balance changes, many of which were never officially documented. Each game will be covered individually.
