Friday marked the debut of the 2026 Summer Games Fest, which saw numerous developers show off their previously announced titles and reveal brand-new games in development, but one game surprisingly had a ton of new information accidentally released during the fest that it wasn't supposed to.

It would seem that someone at Xbox might have jumped the gun a bit, as several new story, gameplay, and purchase details were released early on the Microsoft Store for Halo: Campaign Evolved during the Summer Games Fest, about two days ahead of the Xbox Games Showcase 2026.

Despite The Last Ronin film being shelved, the last Ninja Turtle's quest for vengeance lives on in the upcoming The Last Ronin game.

While most of this early released info was primarily told through in-game screenshots, the images have already revealed a ton of exciting details for the Halo: Combat Evolved remake, and its three new prequel missions.

Halo: Campaign Evolved's Content Explained

Originally pointed out by user grunt.api, these new screenshots and details were found on the official Halo: Campaign Evolved page of the Microsoft Store before being quickly taken down by the end of the Summer Games Fest stream.

These screenshots and details were specifically tied to two pages for a Foundry Armory Pack and an Alpha Halo Armory Pack, which focused on microtransactions for alternate skins for Master Chief and weapons found in HCE, such as one that's a one-to-one recreation of the 2001 Mark V armor and one that coated Chief in pink Blamite crystals.

Connected to these pages were screenshots of previously never-released gameplay, characters, and weapons for Campaign Evolved, as well as newly revealed iterations of returning characters, such as the official new in-game look for Sgt. Avery Johnson and the A.I. Cortana.

One screenshot showed off Master Chief hijacking a Ghost from a Grunt, a gameplay feature that didn't appear until Halo 2 and was absent from both the original Combat Evolved and its 2011 remaster, Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary.

The remaining screenshots focused primarily on Halo: Campaign Evolved's three new prequel missions set before the UNSC Pillar of Autumn's arrival on Installation 04, Alpha Halo.

A particularly intriguing screenshot presumably depicted Master Chief piloting a Covenant Seraph fighter above the planet Reach during its glassing just before the events of HCE, with Seraphs having never officially been flyable in any mainline Halo game before.

This screenshot is especially exciting as space combat hasn't been featured in a Halo game since 2012's Halo 4, with the third-person space combat gameplay having first debuted in 2010's Halo: Reach.

Another screenshot depicts a bridge within a Covenant ship, though it's unclear if this is a new section to the Truth and Reconciliation from the original Combat Evolved or if this is part of a new Covenant ship explored in the prequel missions.

The crew of this mystery ship may be part of the new, more fanatical branch of the Covenant set to debut in the prequel missions, with one screenshot showing a Prophet, an Elite, a Jackal, and two Grunts all in fancy ceremonial attire never before seen in any Halo visual media.

Prophets themselves haven't physically appeared in a new Halo game since 2009's Halo 3: ODST, with them briefly appearing in hologram form in Halo Infinite, and they didn't appear in the original Combat Evolved, having first appeared in Halo 2.

Halo Campaign Evolved Brutes xbox.com

Brutes were previously leaked to be appearing in Campaign Evolved, with the massive ape-like species never appearing in any official iteration of Combat Evolved before, due to them first physically appearing in Halo 2, but another screenshot has shown off this new iteration of Brutes.

One screenshot depicts Brutes in somewhat of a blend of their Halo 2 and Halo 3 armor sets, wielding both a Spiker Rifle and a Brute Plasma Rifle, weapons that didn't initially appear until Halo 2 and Halo 3 and haven't appeared in an FPS Halo title since Reach and Halo 5: Guardians.

All of these details and assets seem to suggest that Halo: Campaign Evolved may be a proper celebration of Halo's 25th anniversary, with it now being confirmed to feature lore and gameplay aspects from all over the franchise.
