Whether you’re discovering Halo for the first time or returning to the ring after 25 years, Halo: Campaign Evolved delivers an adventure that feels both timeless and brand new. The gunplay and combat feels very similar to Halo Infinite. The enemy AI seems a tad dumber than the original Halo 1, rolling away from grenades less often in Halo: Campaign Evolved. The spread on the assault rifle is much tighter now, so much so that it’s usable as a mid-range and sometimes even a far-range weapon. There are no health packs, and instead there’s a separate recharging health bar with recharging shields on top.

There are Halo 2 weapons, but there’s no Halo 2 dual-wielding. Sprinting has been added, making it much easier to chase down Elites who run and hide when their shields are down. These changes make the game feel a lot easier than the original Halo 1. Even the spiraling staircase hallway on the Autumn that everyone has trouble with in the opening level can be completed in one attempt, something that’s much less common in Halo 1 Legendary playthroughs.

After crash landing on a mysterious ringworld known as Halo, the Master Chief is tasked with helping the remaining humans survive against overwhelming Covenant forces. Alongside his AI companion Cortana, he uncovers Halo’s dark secrets and fights to avert the annihilation of all life in the galaxy.
