A Hell Let Loose: Vietnam crossplay playtest is taking place this weekend, which groups up players on all platforms for the first time in the franchise’s history. This particular playtest will happen on a new map that will be available at launch, which promises to switch up the pace from the map that featured in the previous beta, Thanh Hóa Bridge.
Brought to you by Expression Games and published by Team17, Hell Let Loose: Vietnam tackles one of the most devastating conflicts in history. You fight in large-scale 50v50 matches using historically accurate weapons, as either a member of the North Vietnamese Army or the US Armed Forces in one of 17 specialized roles. Thanks to the setting and immersive selection of maps, there are unique mechanics on offer, including the ability for the North Vietnamese Army to build tunnel networks to catch the enemy off-guard with surprise attacks.
The atmosphere is a key aspect of the game, delivering a gritty, tense, and realistic feel that throws you right into the heart of the war. Expect rich jungles, complex river networks, and enhanced player movement to navigate this terrain, such as swimming and fast crawling.
How to Join the Hell Let Loose: Vietnam playtest
As announced on Reddit, Hell Let Loose: Vietnam is set to kick off its very first cross-platform test on Friday, July 24, running through until Monday, July 27. It will begin at 9 am EDT, but an end time hasn’t yet been given. It will bring together players on all platforms that the game will release on, which are PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
If you want to join the Hell Let Loose: Vietnam playtest on PC, you must do so via Steam. Just head to the Hell Let Loose: Vietnam store page when the playtest is live, and an option will appear allowing you to ‘request access’ to the playtest. From here, you will be able to download the playtest and join the action.
As for console players, go to your platform’s store when the playtest is live and search for ‘Hell Let Loose: Vietnam playtest.’ Then, you can download the application on your PS5 or Xbox Series X|S. Notably, you will need a PS+ or Xbox Game Pass subscription to participate in the playtest, due to the requirement of playing online.
Hell Let Loose: Vietnam Playtest Introduces a New Map
The Hell Let Loose: Vietnam playtest will take players to a brand new map, known as Đắk Tô Airfield, which was a US base during the conflict that operated aircraft and logistics, including the deployment of troops. Since the map is set in Vietnam’s Central Highlands, it’s expected to facilitate diverse combat encounters. In the base, expect to engage in battles at short range, and even across the open airstrip using a set of vehicles. Expect to delve beyond the base to advance through villages and jungles, with something to suit every playstyle.
This is not the first time players have got their hands on Hell Let Loose: Vietnam.
Before the playtest goes live, the developers will publish a list of known issues and detail ways in which you can provide feedback when all is said and done.
Since the original Hell Let Loose only supported crossplay between PlayStation and Xbox and PC players were kept together in a separate pool, now might be the best time to try the evolution of the franchise with your friends before the game officially launches on August 13, 2026.
