It’s time to reset the clock, as Team Cherry has announced a free DLC update for Hollow Knight: Silksong, and fans won’t be waiting years to play it.

Hollow Knight: Silksong was infamous for its lengthy development time. Initially planned as a DLC for the original Hollow Knight, Silksong was announced in 2019 and kept fans waiting an agonizing six years to play it. It got to the point where the lack of any announcements became a running meme for years.

While Silksong finally releases on September 4th, its physical editions won't be available until 2026 — the same year as GTA 6.

It seems that Team Cherry isn’t quite done with the Hollow Knight franchise, as a new video on the studio’s YouTube channel has announced Sea of Sorrow, an upcoming DLC for Hollow Knight: Silksong.

The trailer for Hollow Knight: Silksong Sea Of Sorrow is brief, showing Hornet in front of raging waves, and doesn’t offer many details. As such, it’s impossible to say how big it will be, though the video’s description does mention going above and below the waves.

What’s most important is the release date, as the trailer confirms that Hollow Knight: Silksong Sea Of Sorrow is coming in 2026. Now, that could well be December 31, 2026, but that’s still a far shorter wait than the one fans had to endure waiting for the base version of the game.

After working on the Hollow Knight franchise for so long, fans wondered if Team Cherry was ready to move on from the series that made it famous. Hollow Knight: Silksong may well be the final entry in the series for a while, but at least Sea of Sorrow proves that there are still more adventures to be had in Hornet’s world, probably involving her dying many times until the player gets used to a boss pattern.
