One step closer to becoming a real boy

It is a fact universally acknowledged that everyone loves the 12-foot Home Depot Halloween skeleton, Skelly. First released in 2020, the towering outdoor decoration with LED eyes soon became a viral phenomenon. Even today, TikTok videos featuring the bony fellow in various types of seasonal attire can pull in tens of millions of views. With all that love showing no signs of slowing, The Home Depot has revealed its new lineup of thrilling decorative accents for the upcoming 2026 spooky season. And this year, Skelly's getting a major upgrade.

This year's new 12-foot Skelly features app-enabled upgrades, allowing users to customize the Bony One's head and mouth movements, and speak through him in real-time via Bluetooth (with optional voice-changing effects). You can also select from 20 different LCD eyeball variants.

While I'm usually the sort of grump who thinks stuff like toasters and skincare devices should not require an app, I am extremely down for an app-enabled Skelly. In addition to making him speak with your voice, you can also record and store up to 30 custom sounds. The potential for hijinks is virtually limitless! The 12-foot, app-enabled Skelly will set you back $379.

Home Depot's also welcoming a couple of new weirdos to our backyards this fall. These include the 8-foot Perilous Plant Monster for $299, with a beguiling three-headed design and four long, bony fingers on each hand. For some reason, the remains of several human bodies appear to have become integrated into his root-like limbs. Hey, I'm not here to judge. He's got a Resident Evil miniboss look that I'm delighted by.

For those with an affinity for folklore, the 5.5-foot Wicked Woods Animated LED Evil Pixie is also new for 2026 and priced at $199. This smiley lil' demon looks like he was plucked straight out of the early hours of Persona 6, and I'm not mad about it. His mouth, wings, and eyes move, and he makes three spooky sound effects. I've yet to confirm this at the time of publication, but I suspect if you fall asleep in front of him, he'll eat your face off while cackling like Salacious B. Crumb in Return of the Jedi. Love it!

Though it's only July, it's never too early to get started on your Halloween decorating. And besides, skeletons are seasonless. Amazon has a whole section dedicated to 12-foot skeleton fashions you can enjoy year-round, from aloha shirts to pilgrim attire, and even Elvis costumes.
