Octopath Traveler 0 is a fairly grand RPG full of monsters and hidden secrets. When you aren't busy rebuilding the charred remains of your home village of Wishvale, you can try your hand at tracking down some rare monsters.
If you are lucky, you may come across some rare monsters while wandering around the wilderness. These monsters are typically very difficult to hit and even more difficult to defeat, but managing to do so will get you a great prize.
So, how do you get these monsters to spawn more in Octopath Traveler 0? Here is everything you need to know to boost their spawn rates.
What are Rare Monsters?
There are two types of rare monsters in Octopath Traveler 0: Caits and Octopuffs. Both of which are, as the name suggests, rare to find in the wilds, but you will come across them if you hunt in the wilderness long enough.
These monsters typically spawn alone or in a small group of two, and they can be very difficult to hit. However, if you manage to break their guard and defeat them, you will be rewarded handsomely.
There are various variants of Caits and Octopuffs you will discover throughout the game, with their titles ranging from normal to having the chubby addition, and so forth. Of course, the Chubby Caits and Chubby Octopuffs are found later in the game.
If you manage to defeat one of these monsters in battle, you will get a monstrous EXP reward, allowing you to rocket through the levels. For instance, smaller Caits will give you around 1,000 experience, and later game ones can give you upwards of 5,000. That's a lot for defeating a single monster.

Where to Find Caits and Octopuffs
We do not have a comprehensive list of all the locations where you can find Caits in Octopath Traveler 0, but they tend to spawn pretty much anywhere we have been.
For instance, we have seen Caits appear in the wilderness, rocky mountains, snowfields, and even inside castles, dungeons, and strongholds. The only limit seems to be what part of the game you are on, as we didn't see Caits until we were around level 20.
Octopuffs, on the other hand, can only be found in the oceanic regions of Middlesea and Outersea. After you get your hands on the Queen Orsa boat, you will start finding them.
How to Boost Your Rare Monster Rates
Considering how valuable they are, you will want to see as many Caits and Octopuffs as possible. After all, who wouldn't want a boatload of experience points?
There are a few ways you can boost the odds of finding these creatures out in the wild. First, there is the Lucky Coin amulet. Equipping this item on a character will raise the chance of encountering rare monsters.
To obtain the Lucky Coin, you will need to recruit Tressa. Once she is at Wishvale, you can use your Path Action via your reputation to purchase the Lucky Coin from her for 20,000 or 10,000 if you haggle successfully.
The other method of raising your rare monster rates is through the mastery skill called More Rare Monsters. As the name suggests, it has the same effect as the Lucky Coin.
You can combine the effects of the Lucky Coin and the More Rare Monsters mastery, but you cannot stack two Lucky Coins or two More Rare Monsters masteries.
