Sons Of The Forest: How To Set Waypoints

You'll need three GPS trackers to be able to set Waypoints in Sons Of The Forest. Well, here's a guide to help you get these.

Let's break down everything you need to know about adding a second story to your shelter with some stairs in Sons of the Forest.

Building Stairs in Sons of the Forest

Sons of the Forest Stairs Post Placement

Building in Sons of the Forest can sometimes be a tricky task. This is mostly because of the numerous building interactions you can have with the materials. Thankfully, if you mess up, you have allies like Kelvin and Virginia to aid in getting materials and keeping you protected.

First, you will need to collect some logs by felling some nearby trees. This will allow you to get some handy building materials for increasing the size of your shelter. For a staircase, you will generally need around 10 logs.

Once you have the logs piled up, take two logs and plant them on the ground as posts. If you have an existing structure, you can go ahead and skip this part unless you want to build a separate structure.

With the first post inserted, the second one will be able to lock into place using the guide markers that appear when approaching the first post.

Now that both posts are ready, grab another log and look at the top of one of the posts. You will see the option to place a log diagonally from the post.

Place the log in the diagonal position, then proceed to do this again with another log on the second post. You should have both logs facing the same direction, going away from the posts.

Now that you have these two triangle-like structures, you can start placing the boards on the stairs. Grab another log and walk up to your structure.

When looking between the logs, you will see an arrow icon appear. You do not want this arrow icon. Instead, cycle through the building options to find the one that looks like a jagged line.

Once you have found this symbol, place your log. You will get an animation where your character splits the log they are holding down the middle and places it between the structures as boards for a staircase.

Each log will create two steps in the staircase. To create all the steps, you will need five logs. This will create all the steps for the staircase. It is important to note that you will have half a log remaining when you are done.

This extra piece of log can be used for another set of stairs in the future, or used for various shelter pieces, so you should keep it around in case you have a use for it later on.
