Like many other titles in the life sim genre, Tales of Seikyu is a humble and charming adventure that introduces the player to a variety of things to do while settling into a farmhouse on the island of Seikyu. While getting to know your fellow Yokais is part of the journey, along with rediscovering your true form as a fox spirit, there's plenty of daily activities to get familiar with as well.

One such activity that you should secure right away after first arriving is fishing, and thankfully you can do it literally on your first day as a Seikyuian. If you're not sure where to start, here's how to unlock fishing in Tales of Seikyu, along with how fishing works, and all the fish you can catch in the game.

How to Unlock Fishing in Tales of Seikyu

Fishing is a skill you can unlock very early on in Tales of Seikyu. To do so, you'll need to pay a visit to Torleone, the local fishmonger and essentially your go-to vendor for all things fishing. Speak to him, and he'll provide you with a Basic Rod to get your feet wet with.

With that in hand, fishing is now automatically available for you to do at any accessible body of water around the island, be it the ocean or local ponds and rivers.

Once you complete the Big Boss Fishing Heart Event with Torleon, you'll also unlock the ability to take boats around the island to reach even more fishing locales more easily. To do this, talk to his nephew Seabert when he's in the small building in the docks area, and you'll get an option to rent a boat.

How to Fish in Tales of Seikyu

Fishing is a fairly straightforward process in Tales of Seikyu, with just a handful of steps to remember each time you cast your line.

Approach the body of water you want to fish at, and make sure that your preferred fishing rod is currently equipped (it'll be on the top wheel, with your weapons and other gathering tools such as your pickaxe). Note that some water sources, such as the narrow stream and waterfall at your farmhouse, won't have fish available to catch, and you'll get a prompt to try a different area. Your best bet is to check for shadowy silhouettes of fish swimming in the water. If you see them, that means it's a good spot to settle in and make some catches.

When you're ready to fish, use the appropriate button (Left Click on mouse or Square on controller) to cast your line, and wait for a fish in the vicinity to take the bait. When they do, press the buttons that pop up on your screen (e.g. - 'A' and 'D' on keyboard) to pull in the opposite direction of the fish's course and wear it down.

Keep your eye on its stamina gauge at the top center of the screen, and when it runs out, you'll be able to reel it in. Make sure to do so quickly before its stamina refills, otherwise you'll have to wear it down again. The less you have to, the better, as each time you have to weaken the durability of your fishing rod.

Reel in your catch, and it will go straight to your inventory. You can then sell what you've caught via your shipping box at the farmhouse or give it as gifts to NPCs who prefer fish, such as Torleone, Miss Ama, or Musashi.

Finally, each level of Fishing you unlock will reward you with various fishing-related loot, such as traps and baits. Make good use of them, as different types of bait will allow you to catch certain fish you wouldn't otherwise be able to, or even sunken treasure chests.
