Echo Bosses are a special hard-mode version of bosses carried over from Leagues 5, and now, with the newest League starting us off in Varlamore, we have access to Echo Amoxliatl.

If you want to unlock the true power of your new combat abilities, you have no choice but to head down into the icy caverns and take on this formidable foe. Naturally, this isn’t an easy fight, but with the right gear and the right knowledge, this shouldn’t test you too much!
Let’s get combat-ready and check out just what it takes to subdue Echo Amoxliatl.
Echo Amoxliatl Requirements
Echo Amoxliatl can be accessed pretty early on in the league, and doesn’t have many requirements to get started. Here’s a quick checklist of requirements that are essential:
- Heart of Darkness Quest Completed
- Varlamore Echo Orb Obtained (1/40)
- Prayer Level 37 for Protect from Magic
This quest can be accessed with 55 Mining, 28 Thieving, 48 Slayer, and 46 Agility. This quest requires you to kill a normal Amoxliatl, giving you a small taste of what’s to come.
You’ll have to kill this boss a decent number of times before you get the Echo orb, so get used to the attacks that turn off your prayers. This will be important! Once you have the orb, it has unlimited uses, so you don’t have to farm it again, even if you die against the Echo Variant.
Gearing Up
Realistically, you can actually do this fight without taking a lot of damage, simply by avoiding Amoxliatl’s attacks properly, but this isn’t super easy, unless you’ve already done the fight a few times.
So, to simplify, you might as well get your chosen combat style as high as you can before heading into the fight. While it certainly isn’t a hard requirement, try to grab at least one of the final capstones of your Demonic Pact Tree before doing this fight. The final capstone always gives you a massive power boost, so it’s a no-brainer.
- If you’re playing Magic, you should probably be able to either attack with fire spells and grab the pact that reduces spellbook cast speed by 2. Or if you have a powered stave at this point, grab the pact that reduces cast speed by 3 ticks. While you might not have a massive amount of accuracy, you attack so fast, you’re bound to hit.
- If you’re playing Melee, Blindbag works decently well here. Just make sure you bring a decently fast Crush weapon. And make sure you have your 5 Heavy weapons in your inventory, ready to go. Something like the Glacial Temotli works great here.
- If you’re playing Range, the Crossbow build works like a charm here. Make sure you grab the Max hit capstone as well as the one that doubles your accuracy rolls to make sure you’re constantly hitting. The Hunter’s Sunlight Crossbow is obtainable really early on and is an absolute powerhouse.
You really don’t need amazing armour here, just a decent amount of food and a bit of prayer. Once you understand the attack pattern, you should be fine.
Jagex has confirmed that they will be reducing the defence of this boss, making it easier for players who haven’t already completed it.
How to Beat Echo Amoxliatl
Phase 1
As soon as you step into the Echo arena, the first thing you need to do is turn on Protect from Magic. If you want, bind this to your Quick Prayers, along with your combat prayer of choice.
As soon as Echo Amoxliatl begins to attack, you need to move one square to a free tile. You will notice that, along with its regular magic attack, the boss will send out another unblockable projectile that marks the ground when it lands. Now, if you move onto that tile, you will take more unavoidable damage, effectively blocking it off.
In addition, when the projectile hits the ground, it will cause a ring of spikes to erupt around it. Because of this, it’s important that you only move 1 square at a time, and not run erratically around the arena, or you’ll be caught by the outer ring of spikes when moving. This projectile only occurs every 4 ticks, giving you plenty of time to attack and then move. Focus on avoiding attacks rather than dealing damage.
As soon as you see Amoxliatl say, “Rani grows within me”, the boss will cover a small section of the ground in spikes and will turn off your prayers. Firstly, quickly move away from the affected ground tiles, then turn on your prayers and start attacking once more.
Try to fight the boss while moving along the outer edge of the arena. If you move erratically, you’ll cause too many tiles to become unavailable.
Phase 2
The next phase will begin as soon as Amoxliatl says, “Let the darkness consume you”, at around 250 health. Once more, you will be hit with the previous mechanics, forcing you to avoid the spikes and turn on your prayers again.
However, this time, the boss will go into a sort of enraged mode. Now the projectiles will arrive every 2 ticks, so you need to move much more frequently. Many weapons won’t be able to attack this fast, so instead, simply walk 1 tile every 1.2 seconds and then every 2nd or 3rd tile, attack the boss once, and keep moving.
If you want to, try getting into the rhythm of moving without attacking for a while. This will hone your timing skills while keeping you from taking any damage. At this point, if you’ve taken some damage already, eat a piece of food and then a Karambwan while you’re moving. Once you’re at full health, feel free to start attacking again.
Echo Amoxliatl Rewards
The first time you kill Echo Amoxliatl, you will earn the following:
- 80 League Points
- 1 Demonic Pact
- 1 Full Tree Reset
If you feel like you’ve messed up building your Demonic Pact tree, now is a great time to reset it and try out another combat style.
In addition, every time you kill this Echo boss, you’ll also have the opportunity to receive the Infernal Tecpatl. This is a dual-weapon that effectively combines all the two-handed Nagua weapons.
Not only does it have a higher strength bonus, but it also has an inbuilt demonbane effect if you plan on using it against something like Cerberus or the Doom of Mokhiatl. This gives it a 10% increase in accuracy and damage, along with its heavy status, making it great for early-game Blindbag users.
Finally, this weapon also has a special attack called Brand. This allows you to attack 4 times at once, similar to the Dragon Dagger special attack.
This has a 1/30 drop rate from Echo Amoxliatl. However, it also has a dry protection guarantee after 60 kills, so you won’t ever spend too much time here. Naturally, when you kill this boss, you’ll also get a roll on its regular loot table along with a roll for the Echo weapon.
League Tasks
The thing is, just because you’ve defeated this boss a couple of times and gained the Demonic Pact rewards, there are more reasons to stay and grind out the boss a little bit longer. Leagues have always been about tasks and league points, so here are a few more you can grind out, or at least work towards while you perfect this boss:
- Amoxliatl Combat Achievements - 80 Points
- Defeat Amoxliatl 50 times - 80 Points
- Defeat 25 Echo Bosses - 80 Points
- Equip 1 Unique Echo Item - 80 Points
- Defeat 75 Echo Bosses - 200 Points
- Defeat 150 Echo Bosses - 200 Points
- Equip Glacial Temotli - 30 Points
- Equip Pendant of Ates - 30 Points
And once you’ve gotten the Pendant of Ates from Amoxliatl, you can go around activating all the statues for extra points. Tasks in Leagues always seem to cascade into one another, so try to get as many done as you can before moving on to the next big thing!
Once you’ve mastered Echo Amoxliatl, you’ll be more than ready for the next set of Echo bosses in your next regions! Good luck, and keep grinding! Dragon rank is within your reach!
