With the Hidden Mountain expansion for Where Winds Meet, you have an entire new region to explore, and it's filled with new locations, NPCs, treasures, and world bosses. The world bosses are Ironheart Centipede and the duo of Ci and Cuo. Ironheart Centipede takes longer to reach, but it's easier and faster to defeat compared to Ci and Cuo, who are easier to reach but more difficult to defeat.
Before you can get to any world boss, you have to unlock the Hidden Mountain region. This begins with the quest "Yingying's Invitation," which sends you on a journey that involves solving puzzles and an annoying misty river that doesn't want you to cross it.
Ci and Cuo Location
Ci and Cuo have been discarded at the bottom of the lake to the east of Old Mohist City. There's a tiny house here by the water that birds will swim in. You need to dive in and find the pale puppet at the bottom leaning against a structure on the opposite side of the house. When you interact with it, you're sent to the room with Ci and Cuo.
I actually struggled with this part only because I was diving into the lake when it was night in-game, and that meant I couldn't see what I needed to interact with to reach the boss room. Therefore, I recommend setting the game time to sometime during the day before you go in the lake. If you did the "Woven with Malice" quest, then you'll remember how to change the in-game time. Otherwise, you can find a little clock in your menu that lets you do so.
After you interact with the pale puppet in the water, you go to the boss room. Here, you'll find a Hero's Tomb that allows you to resurrect at that location if you die during the fight.
Fighting Ci and Cuo
The fight against Ci and Cuo has two distinct phases. First, you fight the puppets one at a time, attacking the one that has the spotlight, as the other puppet can't be damaged if the spotlight isn't on them. The spotlight will switch between them, in which case you switch targets and continue attacks.
For this phase, most attacks from Ci and Cuo give you plenty of warning for dodging. They move in circular motions and descend to strike you with a slash that you can deflect. Then, when they aren't in the air, they'll do spin attacks, so you want to put distance between you and the puppet. Interestingly, the puppet attacker didn't pursue me while doing spin attacks once it committed to them.
I could dash away and just wait for it to stop, but this is a good moment for ranged attacks if you want to deal extra damage. Since I was using a Rope Dart as my main weapon, I was able to pull myself back into melee range when the puppet was done with this attack set. The only attack that had less warning to dodge is the dash that one will sometimes do after spinning together in the center, so be on your toes when they do this.
Once you get both puppets' health bars down, there's a cutscene. Ci and Cuo merge into one puppet, starting the second phase of the battle.
The second phase starts with the joined puppet dashing at you, which is followed up with a series of melee strikes. This phase is much more direct and has a faster pace for attacks. The puppet performs slashing combinations that you want to deflect as much as possible. These combinations end with a ground slam attack unless you manage to stagger the puppet and interrupt it with attacks.
There's a lot less moving around the arena in this phase, and the puppet isn't that durable. As a result, you can burn down its health and keep your own health up with deflections, letting you burst down Ci and Cuo in Where Winds Meet.
