How to Get and Use Lead in Subnautica 2

The resources you find and gather in Subnautica 2 aren't all equally useful. While items like Titanium seem to be used for almost every craft, items like Lead are only useful for one main craft. However, the one main craft is the unknown tool that you'll be asked to make, and it's actually the Sonic Resonator, which is used for mining and breaking Bloom Biofilm.

Lead isn't as abundant as Titanium, which is fine when you consider that it's used in far fewer crafting recipes. However, it's not the worst resource to find, and it doesn't require as much preparation as a resource like Sulfur, which makes you prepare to go into the high-heat zone.

Finding Lead

Lead is mostly in the area to the northeast of the Lifepod. It has a blocky look to it compared to Titanium and Silver, which appear more like crystals. It starts to show up when you're around 200 meters from the Lifepod, and you'll find it on the ground, but not usually in caves. I started to find it more frequently around 250 meters from the Lifepod. Luckily, it being in open spaces means that it's easier to spot as its colors don't blend into the surroundings the way that Sulfur does.

You'll find large nodes of Lead that you won't be able to mine yet, as they require the Sonic Resonator, and you need lead in order to craft that in the first place. This means that you'll need to look around for the smaller Lead nodes that you can simply pick up right from the ground, or use the Survival Multitool to break the medium-sized nodes.

Using Lead

Lead's primary use is for crafting the Sonic Resonator, which requires:

2 Lead
2 Titanium Ingots
1 Basic Battery
1 Wiring Kit

Later in the game, you'll use Lead to craft Germanium Ingots. It's also one of the ingredients required for Sugar of Saturn, which is required for some Prepared Meal recipes like Cherimoya Chutney and Pavlova. You'll find that Sugar of Saturn is used in other cooking recipes as well, so it's definitely not the worst way to use your Lead for the sake of survival.

Depending on how prepared you want to be for future crafting, you might want to consider emptying your inventory as much as possible before heading over to collect some Lead. This way, you can pick up extra to put in storage for crafting later instead of having to return more than once to grab more.

Lead isn't the most important resource you'll need, but you're definitely going to need at least a few pieces of it for advanced crafting, and it certainly doesn't hurt to have extra that you can turn into Sugar of Saturn and use for cooking. The best part is that gathering Lead isn't that difficult, so if you ever need to pick up more throughout the game, you can do so without expending too many resources in the process. That's especially true if you have the Sonic Resonator to use on the larger Lead nodes in Subnautica 2.
