How to get bones fast in Mina the Hollower

To farm bones in Mina the Hollower, you can go by the usual ways, such as exploring and defeating enemies, or you can find the best farming spot and equip a bone-boosting trinket. You don't need modifiers to gather bones quickly if you know a few tricks — and a certain boneheaded NPC.

Here's how to get bones fast in Mina the Hollower.

How to collect bones in Mina the Hollower

Before we dive into the best bone farming methods, here's how to obtain bones in Mina the Hollower:

  • Defeat enemies. Every enemy drops bones upon defeat, but the amount depends on the opponent's strength. You won't gain many bones from bats, but fighting large frogs or knights is quite profitable.
  • Explore. Bone fragments and bonestones are often found in the wilds, either in plain sight, half-buried, stashed into boulders and crates, or (in the case of bonestones) inside treasure chests. Break every breakable block and burrow wherever possible.
  • Use modifiers. Beware that doing so will disable feats (achievements), but if that doesn't bother you, you can use modifiers to boost your wealth. For example, enable "boning up 20% faster" or "no bone loss [on death]."

How to farm bones quickly in Mina the Hollower

Since visiting the Underlab resets enemies and items (except unique ones) in the overworld, the easiest way to farm bones in Mina the Hollower is to find an Underlab entrance near renewable bone sources and large enemies who are relatively easy to kill. Collect the bones, dive into the Underlab, return to the overworld, and do it all again.

A particularly good bone farming spot in Mina the Hollower's early game is found on the Mourner's Mile: Knight's Rest, a region east of Ossex. Pass through the Eastern Heath (the grassy part), and you'll encounter an area home to armored knights. It's north of the graveyard with the headless statue.

There are two excellent Underlab entrances to use here; the first is near a large door, in one of the northern rooms.

Starting from the Underlab, go to the right to find three boulders filled with bones. Collect them, and return to the Underlab to reset.

If you feel comfortable fighting the knights, you can also defeat the knight, exit to the south, fight another knight, and destroy even more bone-filled boulders. Optionally, you can continue east and use the Underlab entrance at the start of the Queensbury Crypt region to respawn the enemies and items, then walk the same road back.

Best trinkets for farming bones in Mina the Hollower

To speed up the farming process, we recommend using the Deboning Wand and Stolenoid trinkets. The Deboning Wand will cause every enemy to drop about 50% more bones upon defeat, but the bones will bounce around instead of being consumed instantly. This means that the bones are usually lost when an enemy is defeated near a pit, making this trinket unsuitable for regular exploration, but it's an incredibly handy tool when you're farming bones. The Mourner's Mile farming spot described above has very few pits, which makes it an excellent place to use the Deboning Wand.

To counter the Deboning Wand, you should also use the Stolenoid as it will pull nearby pickups towards you, including bones. As long as you're close to the enemy when you defeat them, you'll slurp up the bones without losing a single one. Pair these two trinkets together, and you'll earn a ton of bones in no time.

Where to find the Deboning Wand trinket in Mina the Hollower

To obtain the Deboning Wand trinket, speak with Elizabeth in Ossex. Exit the City Center to the north, then leave the Courtyard to the northeast (destroy the bushes).

Greet Elizabeth, then pick the "nice skull…" dialogue option. She'll offer to grant you a loan, which you must accept. Elizabeth will blast her own skull so you can collect a total of 250 bones. To pay off the debt, you must give Elizabeth 1,000 bones — sounds like an unfair deal at first, but she'll throw you the Deboning Wand when you pay it off.

Of course, if you aren't interested in using the Deboning Wand for farming, you can simply accept the loan, bag those 250 bones, and never return — making this another easy way to get bones in Mina the Hollower, though perhaps not entirely honorable.

Where to find the Stolenoid trinket in Mina the Hollower

To get the Stolenoid trinket, head to Queensbury Crypt, which is located to the east of Ossex. Then, you'll need to progress until you reach the Statue Head Hall, which is where you'll need to find and deliver two statue heads to, well, two statues missing heads. To the left of the left statue, there is a hole that you can burrow into.

Head inside to find Belvedere, who sells the Stolenoid for 600 bones. 600 bones may seem like a lot early on, but you'll make your bones back in no time!
