There are plenty of resources to track down in Windrose if you want to survive in this harsh pirate world. In the early hours of the game, you will be on the lookout for wood, plant fibers, and food, but more resources quickly become necessary for your survival.

One resource that you can never have enough of is clay, as it is used for a good number of structures, making it necessary for your base. Without clay, you won't be able to craft furnaces or kilns, making it impossible to smelt ores.

So where can you find clay in Windrose, and what is this material used for? Here's everything you need to know.

How to Find and Harvest Clay

It is easy to overlook clay in Windrose, as it tends to blend in with the ground. I overlooked it multiple times in the early hours of the game, and can still overlook it from time to time now.

Clay can be spotted by looking for large areas of muddy brown rock. These areas typically spawn near the coasts of the islands, so you won't need to travel very far inland to obtain the resource.

You will normally find clay on the edge of the forest where the grass and sand meet, so stay near this area as you search the islands. When you are near a clay deposit, you will sometimes see it indicated on your mini-map as well.

Since clay is a standard resource in Windrose, you don't need a special pickaxe to obtain it. Instead, any pickaxe will be able to mine the material for you.

To craft a basic pickaxe, you will need three stone and three wood. Of course, I recommend crafting a copper pickaxe as soon as possible, as this will allow you to collect clay much faster, using less stamina in the process.

A typical clay deposit will get you around 50 clay, though some can get you as much as 80 depending on the size of the clay area. Be sure to mine all of it when you discover a clay deposit.

Clay can respawn as well, but it will take some time. This is similar to many of the resources in Windrose. I do not have an exact amount of time that is required to wait for the resource to regenerate, but there are typically multiple clay deposits on an island.

What is Clay Used For?

Windrose Player Crafting With Clay

Windrose has an extensive crafting menu, with tons of items for building the perfect base. Of course, some of these structures are required for survival, and for them, you need clay.

Clay can be used to craft kilns, furnaces, stoves, alchemy tables, and some varying decorations. The most important of these items are the kiln and the furnace.

Kilns are used to obtain charcoal and ash. The charcoal from the kiln is then used to heat up the furnace, allowing you to smelt ores like copper to craft weapons.

While you will not need an extensive amount of clay in Windrose, it is important to keep a supply of this resource available for building additional bases on the islands you visit.
