Shane Limbaugh (He/Him) is a Contributor from the US. While he hasn't been writing about games for very long he has certainly been playing them. His degree in Game Design and Criticism let him better understand the fundamentals of the industry and the games themselves. There aren't many games he hasn't at least put hands on thanks to his time working at GameStop.

Grounded 2 is still going strong, and along with the many new additions, like the new areas of Brookhollow Park, they've added a new Buggy for players to ride, the Ladybug Buggy. This is one of the bigger buggies, although it isn't the same size as the Orb Weaver Buggy.

Since this buggy comes as part of a new area, it'll be a bit of a hassle to acquire. You won't need to beat the Masked Stranger, but you'll probably want to, so you can have an easier time moving about the park.

There are a few things you'll need to do before you're able to get the buggy, and you'll probably want to get started by making a new base in the new area to make things a little easier on you. Regardless, this guide will walk you through all the necessary steps and how to complete them efficiently, so you don't waste a lot of time when there are bugs to ride.

How to Prepare for the Ladybug Buggy

Grounded 2 Ladybuggy Anthill Location

If you're hoping to load right into your previous save and immediately grab this tanky ride, I have some bad news: it will take a significant amount of time. First, you'll need to upgrade your Omni-tool Axe, which isn't too difficult, but you'll need to head to the new area.

When you first load in, you can head to the spot just north of the Dr. Tully Statue. In the corner of this area, you'll find a brand-new anthill. This one is filled with Red Ants, but once you venture inside, you'll come across some Black Ants, and you'll want to grab as many of their resources as you can carry.

When you make it to the other side of this anthill, you'll end up in the new area and hopefully have plenty of resources to upgrade your axe. Once you've got those resources, you can look for a Praying Mantis Nymph or two to fight, so you can grab the rest of what you need.

Omni-Axe Upgrade:

  • Raw Science x3000
  • Black Ant Mandibles x3
  • Praying Mantis Claw x2

You can snag these in the new area and find one of the Research Stations there to upgrade the Omni-Axe while you're on the move. Once you've got it upgraded, the next thing you'll need to do is head for the cabbage patch to grab the Turbo Optical Disk there.

While you're here, you can kill a few Potato Bugs to grab what you'll need to upgrade the Omni-Hammer.

Getting the Turbo Optical Disk

Grounded 2 Ladybuggy Turbo Disk Location

To get this disk, you'll want to head to the very back side of the cabbage patch as denoted by the image. You'll find it just under a leaf of cabbage by the wooden boards and that hole should lead you straight to the facility where you can find the disk.

Following this path, you'll end up in a facility called the Candy Processing Facility. There will be a new kind of Rust Beetle called an OGRE Rust Beetle there, but if you go this way, you can technically totally bypass it.

In the area with the Research Station, you can find the actual disk on a desk opposite the station. Grab it, and you can just insert it to snag the stuff you need with Raw Science. If you're missing a bunch of Raw Science, you can always find some in the world or by scanning any new items.

After you've unlocked it, the next step is to start gathering the materials you'll need. If you haven't upgraded your Omni-Axe already, I recommend doing that before leaving the new area, as there's a lot of things you'll need before heading back to the old area of the park.

Getting the Materials for the Hatchery

To build this hatchery you'll need a few things and most of them you can get pretty easily, but one you'll only find in the new area, specifically in the cabbage patch that you were just in. If you see any cocoons hanging down, you'll want to shoot them down and then smack them a few times to gather what you'll need.

Ladybug Nest:

  • Flower Petal x5
  • Chrysalis Leather x6
  • Weed Stem x3
  • Lint Rope x5

To make Chrysalis Leather, you'll have to take three of the regular hide chunks and mix them together on a workbench. This means making everything you'll need, with the cost of hatching the egg included, you'll want to gather around 30 total Chrysalis Chunks.

Grounded 2 Ladybuggy Lint Clump

If you're hoping to grab some lint, just head over to the picnic table with your upgraded Omni-Axe and you should find some chunks attached to the blanket. Just be on the lookout as the chunks they drop are incredibly small and easy to miss. Run these over to your Spinning Wheel, and you'll have Lint Rope in no time.

If you're grabbing Chrysalis Chunks, you may want to summon your Red Ant Buggy and grab one of the Ladybug Eggs before you head back to your base.

Hatching the Ladybug Egg

Grounded 2 Ladybuggy Hatching

To actually hatch one of these eggs, you'll need to get an egg which you probably saw while shooting down Chrysalises. You can grab one and run it to wherever you've set up camp and are planning on hatching it.

You'll also need a few other items, but hopefully, you've gathered enough materials to not have to go back out searching for anything. Once you've gotten your egg, you can just head to your hatchery and use the following recipe.

Ladybuggy:

  • Ladybug Egg x1
  • Chrysalis Leather x3
  • Black Ant Part x4

Give it 12 in-game hours, and your brand-new tank will be suped up and ready to go. It's an interesting change up to the other buggies available, so make sure you play around with it a bit.

How the Ladybuggy Works

The Ladybuggy is a virtual tank that moves pretty quickly, but it doesn't have much stamina. It comes equipped with a water cannon that does damage and can be replenished by simply scooping up any nearby water.

The primary use of the buggy for now is to clean up the Tang spots that get left around the park. It can make traveling around the new area a bit easier, so you don't have to worry about taking too much damage while just exploring.

You'll also need the Ladybuggy to get through the new story section added in the update, so it's better to try getting all of this done quickly to focus on that. There's still so many things to explore in this survival game, so be sure to keep looking for anything new you might be interested in.
