Laurence is an avid writer, gamer, and traveller with several years of journalistic writing experience under his belt. Having helped create a student-focused magazine at university, he is keen to reach the gaming community with his guides and game reviews.

Whether it's trudging through the world of Elden Ring, or grinding out raids in Old School Runescape, Laurence is always up for a challenge. However, in real life, his current challenge is learning how to speak Spanish and cooking authentic Mexican cuisine.

The recent update to Terraria brought over 650 new items, expanding that huge pool of content even further. Some of these items are pretty easily explained, while others may take a good while to find.

One of these obscure new items is the Lucky Clover. But just how on earth do you get your hands on something like this, as there’s no mention of it in the game itself? Well, Luck plays a big part in it, and for a clover, that's really no surprise.

Slimes are a man's best friend.

Let’s take a look at this new item and the effects it has on Terraria moving forward.

How to Find the Clover

Terraria Clover Drop

Unfortunately, there’s no concrete method of obtaining the Clover; you’ll just have to get lucky.

The clover can be found very early on if you look in the right places. You can either run around shaking trees or cut grass with your weapon in the main biome, and eventually, given enough time, the clover should drop.

Farming the Drop

Terraria Dirt Bridge

Of course, there’s a way to speed this up if you know what you’re doing. What I did was make a huge dirt platform heading in a single horizontal direction and then plant grass seeds along the length of it.

In addition, plant as many acorns as possible and wait for the trees to grow fully. Once this is done, you’ll have a huge platform full of tall grass and trees. You can run along cutting the grass with something like the Sickle to gather hay, and after a time, the Clover should drop.

It’s possible that I was very fortunate to obtain the Lucky Clover as early as I did. It may take quite a few attempts of clearing out this entire platform before you get lucky.

The Effects of the Clover

Terraria Inventory Clover

While it may look like a permanent buff, you can’t actually eat this little plant. Instead, what you need to do is either equip it or simply keep it in your inventory for it to grant the buff.

You can favourite this item to keep it in your inventory constantly. You won’t be able to bank it or accidentally sell it like this.

Once the Clover is in your inventory, it will grant you a +0.03 buff to your hidden luck stat. This is around a 1% boost in total. This might not sound like a lot, but there are a lot of ways to buff your luck in Terraria.

You can also throw the Clover into the Shimmer to receive a Wilted Clover. However, this will reduce your luck instead.

What is Luck?

Terraria Luck Potion

Luck determines so much of what happens in Terraria, from item drops that come from bosses and enemies, the chances that certain enemies have to spawn, NPC spawning and items held by vendors, and plenty more.

You can speak to the Wizard if you want an idea of how much Luck you already have.

So, naturally, you’re going to want your luck stat to be as high as possible. You can use the following items to help you achieve that:

  • Correct Biome torch placement
  • Drinking Luck Potions
  • Accessories like the Lucky Horseshoe and Lucky Coin
  • Throwing coins into the Shimmer
  • Consuming a Galaxy Pearl
  • Having Gnomes nearby
  • Being on a lantern-filled night
  • Touching a Ladybug

Now you can add the Lucky Clover to this list, and good things will start to happen!
