As you delve into the late-game in Subnautica 2, you’ll start finding all sorts of interesting new ores and minerals to add to your ever-growing stash back at base.
Some of these ores are usable in their base forms, while others require processing and refinement to create a new material. Strontium is a radioactive material, vital for many late-game crafting recipes; however, it may not be immediately apparent how to obtain it.
Subnautica 2: Where to Find Troilite
In the depths, no one can hear you scream...
Let’s take a look at how to get our hands on Strontium and at all the recipes that require it.
Where to Find Celestine
If you’re wondering how to make Strontium, chances are you’ve found the Modification Station fragment at the Alien Base. This Station opens up a world of upgrades that will help you progress in the Subnautica 2 Early Access. However, to make Strontium, you must first refine 2 pieces of Celestine via the Processor.
Celestine is one of the first mid-game ores you’ll come across as you journey past the Graveyard biome towards the Alien Base. It’s an extremely important ore that can itself be used in many recipes, so it makes sense to gather as much as you can when out scavenging.
Celestine is a silver-blue spiky mineral. You’ll need a Sonic Resonator in order to mine it.
If you’re wondering where to start looking, here are a few places rich in Celestine:
- South East of the main Alien Base location, you’ll find a large mountain swarming with Needler Fish. You can find a huge amount of Celestine growing on the walls of this structure, as well as Creature Enamel, another vital crafting material.
- If you travel to the Southeast of the main Axum Turbine, you’ll find a lot of Celestine on the outer walls of the mountain near the Cicada Wreck.
- You’ll also find tons of Celestine in the southern and northern parts of the Root Garden Biome, where you find the Metal Farms.
In reality, Celestine is pretty abundant in the eastern portion of the map, so go for a quick scout, and you’ll have a full inventory in no time!
How to Use Strontium
So you’ve filled your inventory with Celestine and returned to your base. First things first, make sure you’ve got a Processor, and your base is hooked up to a decent power supply. Now you can throw your Celestine into the Processor to craft Strontium.
Here are some of the items you can craft with Strontium:
- The Feedback Resonator: This tool is an upgraded version of the Sonic Resonator, perfect for destroying armoured viral blooms.
- Tadpole Haul Chassis: This can be equipped to your Tadpole, allowing it to carry an extra inventory worth of materials, at the cost of speed.
- Strike Armour: This Tadpole upgrade reduces physical damage from attacks and collisions.
- Cavitation Muffler: This is another upgrade that reduces the sound of the Tadpole, meaning predators are less likely to target you.
In order to craft all of these upgrades, you’ll need a total of 9 Strontium and access to the Modification Station and the Vehicle Fabricator.
