Whether it's trudging through the world of Elden Ring, or grinding out raids in Old School Runescape, Laurence is always up for a challenge. However, in real life, his current challenge is learning how to speak Spanish and cooking authentic Mexican cuisine.
The new patch 1.4.5 brought a ton of fascinating, useful new tools to Terraria, along with quality of life updates and general worldbuilding goodies!
However, most of us who follow along with the workings of Re-Logic are aware of how much they love to add random easter eggs and little hidden secrets into their new updates. Are these secrets useful? Perhaps not, but the flavour is what’s important at the end of the day. And this one certainly brought a smile to my face.
Let’s take a look at the new True Copper Shortsword item and see how we can wield this beauty for ourselves.
What is the True Copper Shortsword?
Before I get started on this topic, it’s probably worth saying what this really is. The True Copper Shortsword is a bit of a meme in the Terraria community, and as such, it isn’t really all that useful here.
In reality, this weapon is simply a reskin of the ultimate Zenith sword, the most powerful weapon in all Terraria. There have been rumours in the community stating that this may be slightly more powerful, but the point is, the difference is negligible.
However, if you are tired of the flashy rainbows of the Zenith, and desire something more grounded, then the True Copper Shortsword might be for you.
How to get the True Copper Shortsword
Crafting the Zenith
First off, you must get yourself a Zenith. For anyone who is completely out of the loop, the Zenith requires a massive amount of Swords to forge, including the titular Copper Shortsword itself.
The weapon is a sort of showcase of all the classic Terraria weapons, showing and celebrating the journey of how we all got to this point. You can craft the Zenith on a Mythril or Oricalcum Anvil with the following weapons:
- Copper Shortsword
- Enchanted Sword
- Beekeeper
- Starfury
- Seedler
- Horseman’s Blade
- Influx Waiver
- Star Wrath
- Terra Blade
- Meowmere

Heading to the Shimmer
The Shimmer is a small pool of bright, shining liquid located in the Aether mini-biome. When you throw items into the Shimmer, it will either split them into their component parts or give you an item that’s related to the thrown item. You can get items from different world types this way, new looks for NPCs or even permanent buffs for your character.
To find the Aether Biome, you’ll first need to head to the far west or far east of your map and then dig straight down. This can be a little tricky to find, as the Aether spawns at random levels in the middle of the cavern layer.
If you’re struggling, grab yourself a powerful pickaxe, and then mine vertical shafts at the edges of the map, being careful not to drain the ocean. Eventually, you’ll fall into the Shimmer Biome.
Once you’ve located the Shimmer, simply right-click the Zenith in your inventory and then throw it into the pool. You will receive the True Copper Shortsword in return. Just like the Zenith, the best modifier for the weapon is Legendary.
If you throw the True Copper Shortsword into the Shimmer again, you’ll get all the swords used to craft the original Zenith.
