Whether it's trudging through the world of Elden Ring, or grinding out raids in Old School Runescape, Laurence is always up for a challenge. However, in real life, his current challenge is learning how to speak Spanish and cooking authentic Mexican cuisine.

Most of us have played through Terraria 101 times by now, having done the normal world over and over again. So it’s always a welcome surprise when Re-Logic blesses us with some brand-new secret seeds!

World seeds massively change how you play Terraria, messing with the core rule set, the world generation, the colours, balance and pretty much everything. For anyone who wants a new challenge, yet also desires that fresh new playthrough, this seed is bound to excite!

Slimes are a man's best friend.

Let’s take a look at the mysterious Vampire seed, the impact it has and just how to unlock it.

The Secret Code

Terraria Seed Menu

To anyone who has dabbled in secret seeds before, you’ll know that you need a special phrase entered in the world seed menu to activate the new generation.

Here you’ll want to enter the phrase: “What a horrible night to have a curse.”

It doesn’t matter whether this is capitalised or whether you have spaces or not; the game engine should recognise it regardless.

And now with the addition of 1.4.5, we have a new special menu just for special seeds. When you unlock the Vampirism seed, it will be added to the Secret Seeds, the blacked-out tree with the little question mark. Here it will save your seeds. Just be sure to remove this one if you want to start a new world without being burned alive.

A World on Fire

Starting Out

So just what happens when you embrace your Vampiric roots in Terraria?

Well, for starters, instead of spawning on the surface, you’ll spawn somewhere underground, with the Zoologist instead of the Guide. You’ll notice quickly enough that torches spawn naturally down here, meaning you won’t have to fumble around in the darkness. However, if you need more, the Zoologist will also sell you torches for 75 Copper.

From secret easter eggs to genuinely useful seeds, here is a countdown of some of the best seeds in Terraria for your new world.

This is pretty handy as you’ll be able to see underground houses with gold chests really fast, giving you a nice early-game advantage. If you wish, you can beeline for the surface, but you’ll be met with a nasty surprise.

The Cruel Surface World

As soon as you step out into the light of the sun, your flesh will start to burn, your body combusts under the intense ultraviolet radiation. You’ll be dead within seconds, but you’ll also get an achievement… which is nice!

There are a couple of ways you can counteract the sun’s curse, though. If you build yourself a house with walls and a roof overhead, you can block out the sun.

In addition, if you’re in water, the water will counteract the burning, allowing you to survive while submerged. This also works with an Umbrella and by drinking an Obsidian Skin potion. So you’d best head down into hell and start breaking some pots.

Introduced in 1.4.5 is a new transformation item called the Amulet of the Night. While usually you can only get this from Vampires during a Solar Eclipse, in this particular seed, you can actually find it from normal, randomly generated chests.

This allows you to turn into a bat, with infinite flight time. Items with infinite flight time are usually relegated to the endgame of Terraria, so this is a massive boost for your early game exploration and manoeuvrability. Keep searching those chests for more Vampire-related goodies!
