Just when Phasmophobia's community of paranormal investigators thought they had seen it all, Kinetic Games decided to drop an extra holiday surprise with the game's Winter's Jest (v0.15.1.0) update. It includes three entirely new ghost types that each come with their own mix of supernatural tricks, and recognizing them is half the battle.

One of those ghost types is one known as the Dayan. If you feel unsure of what to expect when encountering one, here's everything you need to know about the Dayan in Phasmophobia.

How to Unlock Dayan Ghost in Phasmophobia

The Dayan ghost type is a newer addition to Phasmophobia's supernatural roster, and to unlock it you only need to have the v0.15.1.0 update downloaded, which coincided with the release of the 2025 Winter's Jest seasonal event.

Similar to the Obambo and the Gallu ghost types, the Dayan is a permanent fixture in the overall rotation. However, just like any other ghost in the game, the odds of it spawning during a contract are substantially rare, so you're better off just waiting for it to appear by happenstance rather than forcing it to spawn.

Also, similar to those two, the Dayan has its own designated space in the lobby display cases for its respective trophy. While not initially accessible in the Winter's Jest update, the trophies for these ghosts will be available in an upcoming update.

How to Collect All Dayan Ghost Evidence in Phasmophobia

The first and most important thing to know about the Dayan is that it will ALWAYS be a female ghost model with a female name (indicated by the bulletin board inside the van and/or your journal). If the ghost has a male model with a male name, it cannot be a Dayan, meaning you can rule it out immediately based on this trait.

The Dayan can be identified via three traditional types of evidence, similar to other ghosts in the game. However, remember that the amount of evidence you can gather depends on your current difficulty and/or custom settings, or if you're doing a particular weekly challenge.

That said, the Dayan can potentially reveal up to three of the following pieces of evidence:

  • EMF 5 Reading - Pick this up with an EMF Reader of any tier at the ghost's current room/location.
  • Ghost Orbs - These can only be detected via the Night Vision feature on the Video Camera (any tier) or the location's preset cameras. They will be present wherever the ghost currently is.
  • Spirit Box Reading - This is picked up with a Spirit Box device (any tier)

Since the Dayan's behavior is based on player movement, you'll need to tread carefully (literally) while gathering your evidence. Consider getting what you can as quickly as possible before you (or your group) fall into hunt range.

All Unique Dayan Ghost Behavior in Phasmophobia

As briefly mentioned before, the Dayan's behavioral traits hinge quite literally on your movement around the ghost's vicinity. In other words, the more time you spend moving around it, the more that movement affects how it behaves inside and outside of hunts. This can make handling it significantly more tricky, as every step you take near it is a consequence.

The Dayan's likelihood to hunt, its movement speed, and whether it has Line-of-Sight, are all contingent on your movement and overall proximity to it. Here's a breakdown of how exactly this works:

Dayan Hunt Behavior (Close Proximity and Walking)

Movement Speed

Sanity Threshold

2.25 m/s (faster than normal speed)

65% (solo or group-wide)

Dayan Hunt Behavior (Close Proximity and Not Moving)

Movement Speed

Sanity Threshold

1.2 m/s (slower than normal speed)

45% (solo or group-wide)

Dayan Hunt Behavior (Distant Proximity and Moving)

Movement Speed

Sanity Threshold

1.7 m/s (normal speed)

50% (solo or group-wide)

Meanwhile, the Dayan's Line-of-Sight speed will also be affected by your proximity to it. If you're within 10 meters of the ghost, it will not invoke a Line-of-Sight speed increase during a hunt. However, if you're further than 10 meters away from the ghost's current location, it will have Line-of-Sight speed up. So keep that in mind if you're looking to complete hunt-related objectives or obtain ghost photos.
