To the ecstatic surprise of ghost hunters everywhere, the arrival of Phasmophobia's annual Winter's Jest community event also brought with it the addition of not one but three new permanent ghost types to the game. Each of these new types brings with it a spooky smorgasbord of unique features and behaviors that you'll need to watch out for.
Among those new ghost types is the ominous Gallu, which has perhaps the most unique behavioral setup of the trio, and you'll need to be on your toes for this one. If you're feeling lost on how to tackle it, here's everything you need to know about the Gallu in Phasmophobia.

How to Unlock Gallu Ghost in Phasmophobia
The Gallu is one of three ghost types introduced in Phasmophobia as a welcome surprise with the game's annual Winter's Jest seasonal event. To unlock it, you simply need to download the corresponding Winter's Jest (v0.15.1.0) update, and the ghost will then be permanently inserted into the normal rotation. However, be aware that its chance of spawning is no higher than any other ghost type.
In addition, the Gallu will also have a designated spot for a trophy in the lobby's display case.
How to Collect all Gallu Evidence in Phasmophobia
Just like other ghosts in Phasmophobia, the Gallu can be identified via three specific kinds of traditional evidence. Bear in mind, however, that the ability for these pieces of evidence to spawn is contingent on your difficulty setting. One or some may not appear at all if you're on an especially high difficulty, or at least take longer to show up.
For Gallu in particular, you want to look for the following pieces of evidence:
- EMF 5 Reading - This is detected with an EMF reader in the ghost's current room/area.
- Ultraviolet Prints - Use a UV Light to look for handprints (on windows or doors), fingerprints (lightswitches), or footprints (must use salt to detect these).
- Voice on Spirit Box - Use a Spirit Box to pick up paranormal voices by using your own microphone (via headset or controller) to speak into it and prompt a response. Asking direct questions about the ghosts yields the best results.
Make sure to circle evidence in your journal as it appears, and take photos, sound recordings, and video clips where applicable for your Media tab.
All Unique Gallu Ghost Behavior in Phasmophobia
The Gallu is a ghost that, like the Obambo, features different "states" that affect its overall behavior in different ways. In this case, the Gallu will constantly be in one of three potential states — Normal, Enraged, or Weakened. Rather than a timer, however, these states are triggered by certain actions.
These three states affect the Gallu's movement speed, the sanity threshold it can hunt at, and how it responds to certain defensive tools the player uses. In other words, it may hunt much sooner or alter the range of a placed crucifix, depending on the state the ghost is currently in. As such, you need to be especially attentive, regardless of whether it's hunting or not, as one misstep can mean your demise and potentially the end of the investigation.
Here's a breakdown of how each state works:
Normal State
The ghost will always start in this state when you first enter the location during an investigation.
|
1.7 m/s (normal speed) |
50% threshold (solo or group-wide) |
Normal range (depending on tier used) |
Normal duration and effect (depending on tier used) |
Normal reaction (depending on tier used) |
Enraged State
The Gallu will enter this state when it steps in salt, is incensed (or "smudged" as the more popular term), or burns a crucifix while in range of it. It will then remain in this state until the end of the next hunt.
|
1.96 m/s (faster speed) |
60% threshold (solo or group-wide) |
-2m smaller than normal range (depending on tier used) |
4 seconds (shorter than normal duration, depending on tier used) |
Will not disturb any placed salt (don't mistake this for a Wraith!) |
Weakened State
The ghost will enter this state after completing a hunt in its Enraged state. It will then return to its Normal state once it, again, steps in salt, is incensed, or burns a crucifix while in range of it, completing the cycle.
|
1.36 m/s (slower speed) |
40% threshold (solo or group-wide) |
+1m wider than normal range (depending on tier used) |
6 seconds (longer than normal, depending on tier used) |
Will disturb salt placed in its vicinity |
