While the Winter's Jest seasonal event is something that Phasmophobia's playerbase looks forward to at the end of every year, this particular iteration of the event came bearing some extra gifts in the form of new ghost types. On top of fulfilling Krampus' requests, there's definitely plenty to keep paranormal investigators busy this holiday season.
Among the new ghost types is one known as the Obambo. This especially finicky ghost has some tricks up its sleeve that you'll want to know about sooner rather than later to ensure that you can correctly identify it. With that, here's everything you need to know about the Obambo in Phasmophobia.

How to Unlock Obambo Ghost Type in Phasmophobia
The Obambo is one of three types of ghosts that were unexpectedly dropped into Phasmophobia's Winter Jest (v0.15.1.0) seasonal update. To unlock it, you simply need to download that update, and the Obambo will then automatically become available in the game's normal rotation of ghosts in each contract.
To reiterate, this ghost type is a permanent addition to the game, and it can spawn on any of the game's difficulties or challenge modes. Also, there is a designated spot for an Obambo trophy in the lobby's display case (normally unlocked when you correctly identify a ghost type for the first time).
How to Get All Obambo Evidence in Phasmophobia
Similar to other ghost types in Phasmophobia, the Obambo can be identified with three specific pieces of evidence, though the appearance of that evidence still depends on your chosen difficulty setting. The higher your difficulty is set, the fewer pieces of evidence you'll be able to pick up during an investigation, or it can take longer than usual to appear, so keep that in mind.
The three types of evidence you want to watch for with the Obambo ghost include the following:
- Ghost Writing - To detect this, place at least one Ghost Writing Book in the ghost's current room/area.
- Ultraviolet Prints - Use a UV light to check for hand prints (doors or windows), fingerprints (light switches), or footprints (salt is required for this).
- DOTS - Set up a DOTS projector in the ghost's current room/area and watch for its silhouette walking through the projection.
It's recommended to check for this evidence as soon as possible, as Obambo ghosts can potentially hunt at a relatively high sanity rate (65%), depending on their current 'state'.
All Unique Obambo Ghost Behavior in Phasmophobia
The Obambo is a particularly unique ghost in terms of its behavioral traits. Aside from picking up evidence, staying attuned to a ghost's behavior in and out of hunts is a key factor to successfully identifying it, especially on higher difficulties.
First of all, per its official journal description, the Obambo consistently functions in one of two given "states" - Aggressive and Calm. Both of these states, in turn, affect other aspects of its behavior, such as its walking speed, hunt duration, and sanity thresholds for hunting.
These characteristics are actually quite similar to how The Twins ghost type behaves. However, there's one key difference to keep in mind. The Obambo will change its given state approximately every two minutes, even potentially during an active hunt (which can be a giveaway if you pay close attention). From the moment you open the map's entrance door, the Obambo's timer will start halfway through its Calm state, meaning you will have one minute of its calm behavior before it switches to its Aggressive state.
Furthermore, there are a few key factors to remember about each state:
|
Walking Speed: 1.45 m/s (slower than normal speed) |
Walking Speed: 1.96 m/s (faster than normal speed) |
|
Can hunt at 10% sanity or less |
Can hunt at 65% sanity or less |
|
Hunt duration is normal |
Hunt duration is 20% shorter during this state |
If you need a ghost photo for an objective, then the Obambo shouldn't present too much issue if you're familiar with "looping" ghosts, or just baiting them through any reliable open area. Just keep in mind that this ghost does have the line-of-sight speed-up buff, meaning that it will move quicker than its preset speed when it sees you during a hunt.
