In StarRupture, when you aren't on the search for the various materials scattered around the planet, like Helium, you will be building up your base. During your search, however, you may notice some strange creatures roaming around.
The strange creatures that inhabit this alien planet are called Vermin, and they are not very friendly. They don't like that you have taken up residency on this planet, and they will try to infect your base, driving you away.

StarRupture: How to Connect Power
In StarRupture, you need power for everything you connect to your base, so you best know how it works.
If you've come back to an infected base, you will need to know how to reclaim it from Vermin so you can live in it once more. Let's break down how to reclaim your base in StarRupture.
How to Tell if Your Base is Infected
For starters, you will notice a blue fog in the area. This stays trapped inside your base's shield and will infect you as soon as you enter the area around your base.
Along with this, you will see blue markings all over the structures at your base. These blue marks will disappear over time after you destroy the infection.
Structures will not be available for use while they are infected. You will also not be allowed to enter your base, as the airlock attached to your habitat will be malfunctioning.
Finally, Vermin will spawn in waves. Each time you defeat a wave, another will spawn a few seconds later until you have purged the area of infection.
Before entering an infected area, you will want to make sure you have some strong weapons, as you will be constantly attacked while inside.
How Does Infection Affect You?
You've just come back to your base after exploring the planet and looking for blueprints to find that there is a strange blue fog hanging over your base. When you get close, you notice that it is filled with Vermin that are ready to attack you.
When you enter the area around your base, you notice that you become infected. This has some negative effects on your character.
The first effect you'll notice is that the infection cloud prevents you from healing. You can no longer use your healing items while inside an infection cloud, making it more difficult to survive.
The other major effect is that your shields are blocked. They will first start to disappear, and once they are gone, they will not regenerate until you are cleared of the infection.
Cleansing Your Base of Infection
To cleanse your base of the infection, you will need to make your way to your Base Core. When your base becomes infected, it is because the Vermin reached your Base Core.
Look around the Base Core and find the large blue cyst. It is pretty easy to spot and usually appears around the base of the core or around halfway up the structure.
Once you have spotted this cyst, shoot it with whatever weapon you have on hand to destroy it. Once it is destroyed, you will see that the infection will slowly disappear and that Vermin will stop spawning.
Go up to your Base Core and hold the E key when prompted to clear the infection. This will remove it entirely from the Base Core. Over time, your buildings will return to normal as well.
