Better to be safe than sorry
Image: Yacht Club Games via PolygonThe only way to save your game in Mina the Hollower is to trigger an autosave. Naturally, you can fully rely on autosaves without triggering them intentionally, but this may result in loss of progress if you immediately exit the game immediately after hitting a milestone.
If you'd rather not take risks, here's how to save your progress in Mina the Hollower.
How to save your game in Mina the Hollower
Although Mina the Hollower doesn't have a manual save button, you can trigger an autosave by entering a new screen. Every time Mina enters a new room, the game is saved. For example, Mina can follow a road, enter a door, burrow through a tunnel, or enter the Underlab — all of this can trigger an autosave as long as she exits one chamber and enters another. Simply crossing an Underlab entrance, even without entering, also triggers an autosave.
If you really want to make sure you've saved your progress, after you've defeated a boss or completed a side quest, for example, check the bottom right of the screen as you enter a new room; when Mina the Hollower saves your progress, a small save icon briefly appears.

For example, exiting the game while carrying the lil' frog to its band, without having completed the full quest, reset the quest progress for us. The game resumed from the last screen entered, but without the frog. Furthermore, dropping off the lil' frog, talking to the band, and exiting without entering a new screen also reset the quest. This may not always happen, but it's best to complete such tasks before logging off if you can.
