Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream isn't just about making your custom Mii characters interact with each other. It's about shaping your island as you see it.

While the ability to customize the land isn't as robust or deep as Pokémon Pokopia, there's still a lot you can do here. However, it's not a feature that's unlocked from the very beginning. You'll need to get to work on it before you start tinkering and tailoring with your island's layout.

Most of the features you'll gain access to in Living the Dream happen organically. Some, like the T&C Reno Home Supply, aren't as intuitive. Unlocking the full Island Builder in Tomodachi Life falls into the latter category. Don't worry, though, because our guide will cover how to fully unlock the feature and discuss everything it entails.

As your island grows in population, it'll also need to grow in size to accommodate all of these new people. That's where both island expansion and the Island Builder come into play.

Once you're able to create your 6th Mii, Tomodachi Life will begin the process of opening up the Island Builder tool. However, it's important to note that you won't have full access to the Island Builder until that Mii moves in.

It's certainly confusing, especially since you'll get a breaking news announcement about being able to use the Island Builder. However, think of this as a training course for what you can expect.

What is The Island Builder in Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream?

Once that 6th Mii has moved in, it's time to get to work on truly making this island your own. You can do that through the Island Builder.

This is your tool to customize the landscaping, layout, and building placement on your island. You can switch up the terrain, create paths, and even purchase items at the Quik Build shop to place around your island.

In order to open the Island Builder, press X while overlooking your island to pull up your menu. From there, select the "Island Builder" option.

From here, you'll be in complete control of how your island looks. By default, there will be a grid pattern overlaid on the island, so that you can line everything up. You'll also have access to a variety of things to build, including the following:

• Interactable and cosmetic objects such as street lights and benches
• Flowers, trees, rocks, and other nature-related cosmetic items
• Buildings and shops
• Custom items you created from the Palette House
• Add different terrain types, such as grass, a sandy beach, or water
• Add in various paths, such as an asphalt path, a brick path, and more

Now, with more going on on your island, you'll need more room to accommodate everything. Thankfully, your island will have the chance to grow three sizes larger, just like the Grinch's heart.
