How to Unlock the Map in StarRupture

StarRupture is a survival game that doesn't start you off with much. From the beginning of the game, you must struggle to survive. This means collecting basic resources like Wolfram Ore and Calcium.

One of the key items that you are missing at the start of the game is the map. When you try to open the map menu, nothing happens, leaving you completely in the dark. How do you change this?

Let's go over how you can unlock the map in StarRupture, and how you can go about discovering the various locations on it, so you can easily discern your location.

How to Unlock the Map

There are some basic functions that you will need to figure out in StarRupture. For instance, you need to know how to get water to keep your character alive.

If it is your first time playing StarRupture, you might be confused when one of the basic functions doesn't work correctly, and that is the map. In the early game, you need to figure out where various things are without looking at a map, since one doesn't exist until you unlock it via the corporate terminal.

To appease your corporate overlords and have them help you better your survival chances, build up your base, and help you explore, you need to provide points and materials for them.

To get your hands on the map, you must increase your level with the Moon Energy Corporation to level three. Once you do this, you will be able to unlock the map by claiming it via the terminal.

Increasing your level with the Moon Energy Corporation requires you to either provide 1,500 points to them or send them 500 Calcium Ore via the Orbital Cargo Launcher.

You can do a combination of both to help increase your level faster. One of the best ways to get points is to trade in items found in abandoned camps. You can also trade in items like Meteorite Hearts for an additional point boost.

Increasing the Size of Your Map

Similar to games with massive towers that reveal a portion of the map, you can reveal large chunks of the StarRupture map without the need to run around and discover every location. This is done by interacting with a Geo Scanner.

Geo Scanners are these smaller structures with radar dishes on top of them. The ones I have found typically have a dead body at the base, allowing you to snag some extra supplies.

When you find a Geo Scanner, interact with it to start the data collection sequence. During this time, Vermin will pop out of the ground and attack you.

You will need to defend yourself and the Geo Scanner from waves of Vermin for a few minutes. Once all the Vermin have been defeated, you will be rewarded with a new section of the map filled out.

The Geo Scanner will fill out a large circular section of the map, and it will provide information about points of interest in the area, such as where there are dead bodies, drone wrecks, and unknown locations.
