I Love Watching People Play One Of Resident Evil Requiem’s Best Scares

In the days of streamers and reaction videos, half the fun of the latest horror hotness is knowing you’ll get to watch your favorite let’s players wet themselves when they play through a game like Resident Evil Requiem. Though the Leon sections ramp up the action and send players into a state of violent bliss, the Grace segments are full of genuinely horrifying monsters and give you very little in the way of tools to fight them off. You have to take some solace in whatever safety you can find…until Requiem pulls the rug out from under you.

In one of the earliest Grace sections in the game, the FBI agent wakes up in a care center crawling with zombies and the living results of grotesque experiments. One of them is known as the Girl. She’s a giant monster that chases Grace throughout the facility with childlike fixation. She wants to “play” with Grace, which means she wants to eat her. Early on, the player discovers she has an aversion to light. In fact, if she comes into contact with a working overhead light’s rays, her skin will begin to burn. As such, the few rooms with working lights become a safe haven, but Requiem doesn’t let you get too comfortable.

If you repeatedly try to lure the Girl into a lit room, she will first recoil at the light and retreat, but eventually she’ll climb into the ceiling and tear the wiring out of the overhead light. This forces you to leave the room that once seemed safe, or else become cornered by the monster and killed. Watching people realize that Requiem cannot be so easily cheesed is priceless.

Requiem has its share of scares in the later game, but nothing quite matches the vicious and disgusting nature of the Girl. Normally you’d be able to say that a monster like her is at least predictable, but she proves that’s not true real quick.
