Where to find the various bugs around the island
Image: XD via PolygonInsect catching is one of the hobbies you can unlock in Heartopia that allows you to well, catch insects. There are a bunch of different types of bugs to find around the island, and as you level up the hobby, you'll unlock even more to find. Some insects require specific weather or time conditions, so you may have a hard time looking for them if you don't have an idea of when or where to look already.
Below, we explain how the insect catching hobby works in Heartopia, as well as provide a list of all the insects we can confirm in the game so far.
How insect catching works in Heartopia
To catch bugs in Heartopia, you'll need to equip your green bubble wand and click/tap the wand icon or press "F" on PC to swing it. This will send out a bubble straight ahead of you to catch any bugs in your path.
As you hunt around for bugs, you may notice that some only show up from the "Bait the Insects" event that takes place in Onsen Mountain. You can either wait for Naniwa to periodically start these events, or you can go to Onsen Mountain and pay a small fee to start the event up yourself. After leveling up, some of the new insects won't spawn unless it's a specific time of day or there's a specific type of weather.
Just like the other hobbies, leveling up the insect catching hobby will unlock more bugs to catch, as well as passive abilities that increase bug star quality, the range and durability of your bug net, and the ability to "double catch" an additional insect randomly.
Heartopia insect locations list
Below is a list of all the insects that we can confirm so far. Admittedly, our insect catching hobby isn't as up-to-snuff as our fishing or cooking (level seven) due to weather restrictions and time gates, but we'll update this guide as we can confirm more.
You can check what time of day it is by opening your menu and seeing which of the sun/moons is highlighted. The first moon with the "zz" is nighttime, the rising sun is morning, the full sun is daytime, and the moon with a single star is evening.
The list below doesn't include any event-limited insects, like ones from the Winter Frost season.
