The fate of Peele's fourth film hangs in the balance
Image: Hulu/Everett CollectionDirector Jordan Peele’s next original horror movie was supposed to come out in October 2026, but last September, Universal quietly pushed the unnamed film off its theatrical calendar. There hasn’t been any news about it since. Now that the Peele-produced HIM has come and gone with nothing but a whisper, all eyes are on when we can expect to see the director’s fourth film, but even some of Peele’s collaborators aren’t quite sure when he’s expected to pop out once again.
Polygon had a chance to chat with Nope (2022) star Keke Palmer about her new Peacock show, The ‘Burbs (more on that in another article soon), and we asked the actor directly if she’s heard from Peele about his next movie.
"I haven’t asked him, but one thing I know about Jordan that’s for sure is he loves the actors he loves,” Palmer said. “Obviously, he loves Daniel [Kaluuya]. So I feel like, if he loves me, then hopefully we’ll see me in another JP film at some point, whenever he decides to do an original again."
Nope was Peele’s last project, which stars Palmer and Kaluuya as siblings who are California horse ranchers who encounter an alien invader near their property. It was a critical and commercial hit, virtually assuring that the director would get the green light for whatever his next project might be. Peele has been developing his fourth feature, described as a “horror thriller,” for some time, with an initial release date set for the 2024 holiday season. Those plans were derailed by multiple guild strikes, forcing the project to shift to October 2026. Since then, that timeline has also fallen apart, and as of now, the film’s future appears uncertain.
Meanwhile, Kaluuya is set to produce and star in a live-action Barney movie from Mattel Films and A24, reimagining the iconic purple dinosaur through a contemporary lens with a script written by Ayo Edebiri. Palmer currently stars in and executive produces a new series adaptation of the 1989 cult classic dark comedy The ‘Burbs, which premieres Feb. 8 on Peacock.
