KPop Demon Hunters has passed yet another major milestone. The film has now spent 52 consecutive weeks in Netflix’s Global Top 10, blowing past the previous record held by Extraordinary Attorney Woo, which maintained its spot for 20 weeks straight.

Since it was released on June 20, 2025, KPop Demon Hunters has become Netflix’s most-watched title ever with over 500 million views — not bad for an animated film that Sony sold off after deciding the movie was too “niche” for a theatrical release. Speaking of theatrical releases, Netflix will bring KPop Demon Hunters back to cinemas worldwide to celebrate its one-year anniversary. It previously topped the domestic box office during a limited sing-along release last August. While the movie recently fell off Netflix’s top 10 in the U.S., it held on for an impressive 46 consecutive weeks.

There are many reasons why KPop Demon Hunters caught fire, but among them are its chart-topping score, creative animation from the studio behind Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, and its colorful cast of characters. The film won Academy Awards for Best Original Song (“Golden") and Best Animated Feature. “Golden” also won a Grammy for Best Song Written for Visual Media, marking the first time a K-pop group took home an award at the show.

In light of KPop Demon Hunters’ massive success, Netflix greenlit a sequel and penned a multiyear directing and writing deal with the film’s directors Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans. Considering how long it can take to create animated films, a sequel is likely years out, but in the meantime, there will be plenty of merchandise laser-targeted at parents’ wallets: Netflix just announced a new KPop Demon Hunters Lego set, a skin care line with Anua, a Huntr/x-themed Vans collaboration, singing dolls, bemyfriends pop-up merch, Saja Boys accessories, and a vinyl and CD anniversary edition of the soundtrack.

There’s also a KPop Demon Hunters Global Concert Tour on the way, although the details haven’t been announced yet. It may be a while until the series returns in feature-length form, but Netflix seems intent on keeping the hype alive.
